Over/Under and Spread

Caesars have listed under 2.5 goals at a tempting +200, which is well worth a second look, while over 2.5 is pitched as a rather less enticing -260. Given that this could well be a tight game, only one of those offers any value.

Borussia Dortmund vs Hoffenheim Prediction

It has been a bright start to the season for Edin Terzic’s BVB and aside from a late disaster against Werder Bremen, which saw them lose 3-2, it has been wins all the way. At the weekend, they successfully negotiated a tricky-looking afternoon away at Hertha Berlin; dominating possession and coming away with a solid 1-0 win.

Terzic spoke afterwards of being happy with the win but concerned that his side couldn’t find the second goal that would have killed the game off. He asked his team to be more clinical in front of goal.

Head to Heads Favor BVB

BVB secured their first double over Hoffenheim last season – winning both games 3-2 – and generally hold the upper hand in Dortmund where they have won eight of the 16 meetings. Last season’s home win was, however, their first in their last four attempts.

With Bayern already heading the table, Terzic’s men can ill afford to drop any more points at home at this stage of the campaign and will be looking to justify their odd-on status by winning this one without too much fuss.

Hoffenheim’s Best Start For Over a Decade

New Hoffenheim manager, Andre Breitenreiter, has made a positive start, winning three of his opening four league games and leading his team to their best start to a Bundesliga season since the 2010-11 season. He has been able to translate the success he had in Switzerland last season – he led FC Zurich to the Swiss Super League title – to the early stages of this Bundesliga campaign.

Hoffenheim are currently on a three-game winning streak and have just managed consecutive clean sheets for the first time since April 2021. Defensively, they have been sound – and in the 1-0 home win over Augsburg at the weekend the opposition managed just a single shot on target.

Proven Ability on the Road

Another clean sheet on Friday for Hoffenheim and it will equal a club Bundesliga record – a feat last achieved in January 2021 – but this will be their toughest test yet. They have though already demonstrated an ability to win on the road with an outstanding 3-0 win in Leverkusen in week 3 – a result that ended a miserable run of five road trips without victory.

Borussia Dortmund vs Hoffenheim Team Lineups and Injuries

BVB Projected Lineup: Kobel, Guerreiro, Schlotterbeck, Sule, Wolf, Ozcan, Bellingham, Brandt, Reus, Meunier, Modeste.

BVB Injuries: Haller, Dahoud.

Hoffenheim Projected Lineup: Baumann, Kabak, Vogt, Akpoguma, Skov, Promel, Geiger, Rudy, Angelino, Larsen, Kramaric.

Hoffenheim Injuries: Bebou, Hubner, Pentke.

Borussia Dortmund vs Hoffenheim Pick

With both teams having very similar records so far this campaign, the draw is very much in play here even though the odds suggest otherwise. Breitenreiter has performed miracles so far and I believe he’s capable of another here, especially if his team can nab an early goal.

But this is a BVB team that’s only conceded four themselves and in front of a noisy Signal Iduna Park, they will be driven forward by the crowd. On that basis, there is value here in the low-scoring draw.

Pick: BVB and Hoffenheim to draw (-340) / Under 2.5 goals (+200)
