Over/Under and Spread

Caesars have listed over 3.5 goals at a tempting +280, while on the flip side, under 3.5, is -400.

Given the make-or-break nature of this game for both teams, an end-to-end game with plenty of goals is quite possible.

Czech Republic vs Portugal Preview

It’s been a tough year for the Czech Republic after they failed to make it to the Qatar 2022 World Cup, and things could yet get even worse if they finish bottom of this group and lose their League A status in the Nations League. They currently lie third in Group 2, three points behind second-placed Portugal and just a point ahead of bottom-of-the-table Switzerland.

On paper, Jaroslav Silhavy’s team has plenty of quality with, in particular, Adam Hlozek and Patrik Schick offering attacking depth that’s the envy of many of Europe’s elite but they are yet to fulfill their potential.

No Clean Sheets in Six

Four points from their opening four games is a far from ideal position to be in although, technically, two wins from their final two games would still leave them with an outside chance of making it to next summer’s finals. Realistically though, they need to win at least one of them to preserve their place in the top tier.

Two away defeats in their last two Nations League games in June, against Portugal (2-0) and Spain (2-0), were particularly costly, and of even more concern to Silhavy will be the fact his men have now gone six games without a clean sheet.

On the plus side, the Czechs have a good home record in this competition, having never failed to score on home soil, and are also unbeaten in four at home in all competitions – three of which were wins.

A Must-Win for Portugal

Going into Matchday 4, the Portuguese looked to have control of this group, but a surprise defeat in Switzerland coupled with Spain’s home win over the Czech Republic handed the Spaniards the initiative. A win here though for the Portuguese would set up a thrilling winner-takes-all contest on the final day (next Tuesday) when they entertain their Iberian neighbors.

If they fail to win in Prague and the Spanish beat Switzerland at home it will be game over and they’ll look back to their defeat in Geneva as the turning point of the group, but they will be confident of returning to winning ways as the Swiss defeat was their first in their last six.

Santos’ Team en Route to Qatar

Unlike the Czechs, Portugal have qualified for the 2022 World Cup and so this forms part of their Qatar build-up, where they will come face-to-face with Uruguay, Ghana, and the Korea Republic. Their finals route wasn’t straightforward though and after failing to win their qualifying group, they needed to beat North Macedonia in a playoff final to secure their place,

Fernando Santos’ men have the psychological advantage of having already beaten the Czechs in this group. When the pair met in Lisbon in early June, Joao Cancelo and Goncalo Guedes were the scorers in their 2-0 win.

Czech Republic vs Portugal Pick

The must-win nature of this tie ensures it will be attacking and end-to-end. It’s on a knife edge and Portugal will see it as an opportunity to keep their hopes of a final place alive.

The value however is with the Czechs whose home form is good. At +350, the home win is generously priced and well worth a punt.

Pick: Czech Republic to win (+350)
