Senegal will begin their World Cup campaign in earnest when they lock horns with the Netherlands in Group A on Monday afternoon.

The African Cup of Nations champions, who exited after the group stages four years ago in Russia, were dealt untimely news after learning Sadio Mane will miss the World Cup through a thigh injury.

Nevertheless, they will be hoping to recreate their fairytale run of 2002 when they reached the quarter-finals.

Aliou Cisse is very much a pragmatic coach, and one that recognizes that a solid defense is the backbone of any good side.

But they will face a stiff examination against a Netherlands side, who will be looking to make up for lost time having sat out the 2018 edition of the tournament.

This could be a cracking clash, especially as it pits two teams against each other with vastly contrasting styles. So, to build up anticipation ahead of kick-off, we have scoured the markets and picked out a couple of tips for you to feast on.

Netherlands to Get Off to a Strong Start

After impressing during the Nations League, Louis van Gaal is a man on a mission, and he will be looking to emulate the feats of 2014 when they reached the World Cup semi-finals and defeated Brazil in the third-place playoff game.

Although the Dutch will be moving away from their quintessential 4-3-3 formation to 3-5-2, which has provoked some criticism, Van Gaal won’t pay too much attention to what is being said as he looks to strike a decent balance in his side.

The Oranje are dripping with quality, and even though Senegal have what seems like a formidable defense on paper with Kalidou Koulibaly marshalling it, they could be outdone by the Netherlands.

I have a hunch that the Netherlands will get off to a strong start and clinch a 2-0 victory. A price that is available at 11/2 in the Correct Score section at sportsbooks if you fancy following up on that.

Memphis Depay at the Double

Despite being plagued by injuries this term, the Netherlands will be hoping that Memphis Depay is fully fit and firing, and to a certain extent, they are dependent on him from a creative point of view.

Memphis can be a menace as he likes to take on players and cut onto his favored right foot, and he has proved to be prolific at international level.

His sharp shooting has seen him notch up 42 goals for the Netherlands, and while he’s eight short of the record set by Robin van Persie, he would like to make more inroads.

Though he might not surpass Van Persie in Qatar, Memphis could well grab a couple against Senegal. Currently, he’s attracting odds of 15/2 to score twice which could be worth pursuing.
