Real Madrid will seek to strengthen its grip on Spain’s title race when it visits high-flying Sevilla on Sunday.

In first place, Madrid is 12 points ahead of both second-placed Barcelona and third-placed Sevilla – with six rounds of fixtures remaining.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side is, furthermore, in a buoyant mood after advancing to the last four of the Champions League in midweek despite a 3-2 home defeat by Chelsea. It won the last eight tie 5-4 on aggregate.

  • The total for Sunday’s matchup is set at 2.5, with the over paying out at +104. Barstool offers the opportunity to move the total around, so over 3.5 pays out at +260.
  • Sevilla is coming off of a 4-2 win, but across all competitions seven of their last eight matches feature two or fewer goals. Madrid meanwhile, has had a few more high scoring results, going five-for-eight in all competitions.

Madrid Unlikely To Falter In Title Race

It would certainly take a major collapse for Madrid to fail in its aim of regaining the title it lost to Atletico Madrid last season following its most recent triumph in 2020.

With kick-off in southern Spain at 3:00 pm ET, Barstool Sportsbook believes Madrid will continue its march on the crown.

It makes Madrid the favorite for an away win at +145. Sevilla, meanwhile, is priced at +195 with the draw at +230.

That price for the draw is surely attractive because Sevilla still has plenty to play for even if its title hopes are over.

It is in a tight battle to finish in the top four Champions League qualification places – with fourth-placed Atletico Madrid and fifth-placed Real Betis just three points behind.

So every point counts critically at this stage of the season.

Once again, the stunning form of veteran Madrid striker Karim Benzema could be a key factor here.

He has hit no fewer than 38 goals this season – with 24 coming in La Liga.

Furthermore, he has a knack for finding the target in the big games.

Indeed, it was his 96th-minute strike against Chelsea at the Bernabeu last midweek that secured his team’s aggregate victory.

So the Prop offer of +390 for the Frenchman to score first at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan looks a compelling one.

Recovery From Barca Hammering

Certainly, Madrid has recovered well since a shock home 4-0 defeat by El Clasico rivals Barcelona on March 20 – which ended an eight-match undefeated run.

Following that setback, Ancelotti’s team won 2-1 at Celta Vigo and then 2-0 at home against Getafe.

However, it is facing a Sevilla side with a strong home record in La Liga this season.

In 15 fixtures, it has claimed 37 points with 11 wins, four draws and no defeats.

This is the competition’s only undefeated home record.

Madrid, however, has the best record on the road in the competition with 11 wins, two draws and only two defeats.

Until April 3, Sevilla enjoyed a 15-match unbeaten run in La Liga.

However, it came to an end with a 1-0 defeat at Barcelona.

It has since recovered with a 4-2 home defeat of Andalusian rival Granada last weekend.

There was a 2-1 win for Madrid when these sides met in La Liga last November.

Six-Match Winless Run Against Real For Sevilla

Indeed, Sevilla is enduring a six-match winless run against the giants from the capital.

This is their worst run since a 15-game winless streak which ended in April 2003.

It was also beaten 1-0 at home the last time these sides met in Seville in December 2020 – so Madrid is looking to put together a three-game winning run in the city.

Sevilla is not a prolific goal scorer and has hit the net only 44 times in La Liga – while conceding 22 times.

Its leading scorer, Rafa Mir, has just 11 goals this season.

Meanwhile, the loan signing of striker Anthony Martial from Manchester United has not worked out.

He has scored just once – in the Europa League – since his arrival in January.

Sevilla’s Europa League campaign came to a surprise end when it was beaten 2-1 on aggregate by West Ham United in the last 16.

Contrastingly, Madrid has scored 62 times and is almost as tight defensively as Sevilla, with 26 goals conceded.

Sevilla vs Real Madrid Pick

So, in conclusion, there is much to play for here which makes a draw a powerful possibility.

However, it may be the time to take advantage of Benzema’s superb form and capitalize on the generous prop offer for him to start proceedings on the night.

Pick: Karim Benzema +390 (First Goalscorer)
