The club has also consistently risen to the occasion at the Copa America, advancing to at least the quarter-finals in each of their past nine appearances. Indeed, Peru emerged as the Cinderella story at this tournament two years ago, reaching the final for the first time since they last raised the trophy in 1975. Ecuador has also held the clear edge in recent meetings with Venezuela. The club has avoided defeat in six straight matchups, including an unblemished 3-0-0 record in non-friendly clashes during that stretch. The challenge now for La Tricolor is to halt a dismal 1-4-0 slide in Copa America action, during which they have been outscored by a wide 8-2 margin, and stay ahead of the basement-dwelling Peruvians on the Group B table.
