Mannarino Continues to Comeback

The 34-year old dropped the first set in both his first and second round match, setting himself up for a comeback. He opened his tournament up against multiple Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka, and after dropping the first set, went onto win  1-6, 6-2, 6-3.

The second round didn’t get easier for the Frenchman. He went up against David Goffin, who had just upset World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz in the round before. The match was all Goffin, as he took the first set easily. But it was Mannarino who came out in the second set and turned the whole match around. He went onto break Goffin, and despite a tough third set, went onto win 3-6, 6-1, 7-5.

Rublev Still Holds Serve

Not only have Rublev won his two previous matches in straight sets, he’s also done so without even dropping his serve.

The 24-year old has been very impressive once again this week. In both his matches he came out strong and took a fast lead. There’s really not much to say other than how good he’s played. He dictated the matches from start to finish, and barely looked like he had been challenged. He’ll now compete in his 11th quarterfinal of the year.

Third Meeting

This will be the third career meeting, and first meeting this year between Mannarino and Rublev. Their current head-to-head is split at 1-1. Rublev won their first meeting in 2019, which was the final of the Kremlin Cup. He won in straight sets. Two years later, the two met in the same tournament, but in the round of 16. This time Mannarino won in three sets.

Mannarino vs Rublev Pick

Rublev is the obvious pick to win heading into this match, but where’s the best bet? These two don’t evenly square up against one another so it’s a little harder to find the best bet.

As mentioned, Mannarino entered the quarterfinals having won his first two matches in three sets, while his quarterfinal opponent did so in straight sets.

Everything is pointing to this being an opportunity for Rublev to put on another serving masterclass. The 24-year hasn’t dropped his serve yet, and he’s been consistent. Rublev just has the upperhand in most aspects of the game in this quarterfinal matchup. Mannarino has managed to comeback in both of his matches played at the tournament, but at the level Rublev is playing at, it seems unlikely. Look for Rublev to move onto the semifinals in just two sets.

Best Bet: Andrey Rublev 2-0 (-155)
