No. 1 For A Reason

Djokovic started Wimbledon by dropping the first set of his first round match against Jack Draper, but has not dropped one since. He’s eased through the past three matches, and defeated Cristian Garin in the Round of 16 6-2, 6-4, 6-2.

With the win, Djokovic has now reached the quarterfinals or further in 10 of his past 11 appearances at the All England Club, and has improved his overall record to 76-10.

In his first set against Garin, Djokovic went on to win 100 percent of points behind his first serve, and continued to dominant throughout recording nine aces. In the second set it looked like Garin was gaining some momentum, but the top seed was able to close it out and enter the third set up two. It took just under two hours to earn him a spot in the quarterfinals.

Fucsovics’ First Wimbledon Quarterfinal

The 29-year old is coming off a huge win over fifth seed Andrey Rublev in the Round of 16. After losing to him twice already this year, the World No. 48 took down Rublev in five sets, winning 6-3, 4-6, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3. In two hours and 41 minutes, Fucsovics was able to rally to book his spot in his first Grand Slam quarterfinals.

Fucsovics also had a big serve going in the match with nine aces. What didn’t help was that he also managed 10 double faults. But he was very impressive winning 90 percent of points behind his first serve.

Head-to-Head

This quarterfinal match is the third meeting between Djokovic and Fucsovics. The two have played each other twice before, and Djokovic leads the head-to-head 2-0. Their most recent meeting came back in 2019 in Qatar where Djokovic came back to win after dropping the first set.

Best Bet

Many are saying that Djokovic has yet to be tested at the tournament yet, so he still has a lot in the tank and hasn’t shown us his best. I would to have to agree. Instead of any signs of fatigue, Djokovic is showing signs of warming up. With every match, his serves become more precise, and his groundstrokes stronger than ever.

But on the other hand Fucsovics does have the opportunity to spoil the run for the Serb. Grass has always been a court surface that Fucsovics has found success on. It’s actually unbelievable that this is his first quarterfinal appearance here at Wimbledon, given his success of grass.

I don’t see a world where Djokovic doesn’t come out with the win here, but it will more likely than not be a tougher and more exciting match. I wouldn’t be surprised if Fucsovics is able to steal a set, but nothing’s pointing to him being able to take the whole match.

Best Bet: Over 3.5 sets (+220)
