The NFL is finally set to kick off again tonight for the 2023-24 season. Sports bettors across 35 states will have legal betting access when the regular season gets underway this evening, with more states expected to follow in the coming months.

Tonight’s kickoff will be the first opportunity for online sports bettors in the Bay State to wager on NFL games after Massachusetts sports betting apps launched in March. And while Ohio sports betting went live in January in time for last year’s playoffs, Buckeye Sports bettors will be eager to wager on the Week 1 matchup between the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns.

NFL Week 1 Kicks Off With Detroit Lions vs. Kansas City Chiefs

The 2023-24 NFL season gets underway tonight, as the Detroit Lions visit the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs will be looking to start their season off on the right foot after winning Super Bowl 57 last year, while the Lions will be looking to make a push back to the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

There has been some huge line movement on this matchup since it was announced that Chiefs star TE Travis Kelce suffered a knee injury that could limit his availability. The Lions have moved from 6.5-point underdogs to +4.5, so bettors who got in early could have found good value leading up to kickoff.

The next state to go live with legal online NFL wagering is the Kentucky sports betting scene. In fact, retail sportsbooks opened at nine Kentucky racetracks earlier today in time for the start of the NFL season. And with Kentucky online sports betting launching on Sept. 28, sports bettors can still sign-up to grab some limited-time early registration promos.

The next states on deck expected to launch NFL sports betting include North Carolina and Vermont. North Carolina sports betting is anticipated to go live in January 2024, with a similar timeline expected for the state of Vermont.
