  • The Rock hasn’t appeared on WWE programming since WrestleMania 32 in 2016
  • WrestleMania 35 is set for Newark, New Jersey on April 7, 2019
  • Will The Rock finally return to the ring at next year’s Show of Shows?

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been a hot topic of conversation among wrestling fans as of late, with members of the WWE Universe speculating whether an in-ring return from The Great One was in the cards for last month’s SmackDown 1000 spectacular.

Unfortunately, Rock did not end up appearing on the show in any capacity, leaving viewers disappointed.

The odds were off in that instance, not to mention betters were also wrong in assuming Hulk Hogan wouldn’t be present at WrestleMania 35. Of course, he resurfaced at Crown Jewel last Friday and is bound to be apart of next spring’s Show of Shows in some fashion.

Hogan may not be the only familiar face at WrestleMania in 2019, however, as fans have already begun to predict a possible match for The Rock at the event. Sportsbooks have odds for that as well, and so far, it doesn’t look like there’s too much of a chance of Rock wrestling again any time soon.

Yes +220
No -260

That said, these odds should surprise no one considering it has been over five years since Rock last competed in a WWE ring (his six-second squash against Erick Rowan from WrestleMania 32 hardly counts). Plus, he is widely regarded as one of the busiest men in Hollywood, starring in (and producing) multiple movies each year.

There is no doubt Rock wants to wrestle again so he can definitively end his in-ring career, but the stars would have to align just perfectly and it would have to be the biggest bout imaginable. Roman Reigns has been rumored for a while as a potential opponent for The Brahma Bull, though that could be out of the question at this point due to Reigns’ recently revealing the return of his leukemia and that he’ll be out of action indefinitely.

Despite those factors, WWE fans shouldn’t count out Rock for WrestleMania 35 just yet, and thus there is value in betting on him lacing up his boots again for the event. Granted, we won’t know for sure until WrestleMania season rolls around, but with Reigns and Triple H likely not competing on the grandest stage of them all in April, WWE could be more desperate in getting Rock to wrestle.

If Reigns is indeed out of the WrestleMania picture next year, there are a few other stars who would make just as much sense to step in the ring with Rock. Kurt Angle and Rock rekindling their rivalry from years ago would be a nice trip down memory lane, while Brock Lesnar would be a fine choice as well given their history (as long as their bout isn’t for the Universal Championship, that is).

Although Rock’s WrestleMania status is in doubt at the moment, his inevitable return (whenever that might be) to the company that helped make him will surely be nothing short of electrifying.
