Bama Favored to Return to Top
The Alabama Crimson Tide are favored to win a fourth National Title in seven years in 2022-23. Although the Tide lost 33-18 to Georgia in this year’s National Championship, oddsmakers know the Tide will field a more experienced team next season.

Alabama was only the third-favorite to win the National Title entering the 2021-22 season, so they technically exceeded expectations based on betting odds. Bryce Young will be back at quarterback for the Tide after winning the Heisman Trophy in his first year as a starter.
Alabama had the top recruiting class in 2021, including wide receivers JoJo Earle and Ja’Corey Brooks. The Tide will also feature a loaded backfield in 2022 with GA Tech transfer Jahmyr Gibbs joining Jase McClellan and Trey Sanders in the Alabama running back room.
Aside from a loaded roster, the Tide land a relatively easy regular-season schedule. Alabama’s toughest non-conference game will be a September clash with Texas in Austin. The Tide get conference-rivals Texas A&M and Auburn at home in Tuscaloosa.
UGA, Ohio State Among Top Contenders
Georgia is +450 to repeat as National Championships in 2022. It’s best to tread lightly with the Bulldogs this early out, as UGA is expected to lose a plethora of starters from their elite defense. They also have questions at quarterback with JT Daniels nursing several injuries in 2021.
While Georgia’s 2022 SEC schedule is pretty favorable, the Bulldogs have a tough non-conference game vs Oregon to start the year. Alabama is the only team to repeat as National Champs this decade, so it’s best to hold off betting UGA until their 2022 roster becomes more clear.

Ohio State is the third-favorite in the 2022-23 College Football National Championship Odds after posting an 11-win season in 2021. The Buckeyes beat Utah in the Rose Bowl after missing out on the Big 10 Championship due to two losses.
Ohio State returns plenty of talent from the squad that won the Rose Bowl, including Heisman finalist QB CJ Stroud. Leading rusher TreVeyon Henderson is back at running back, while breakout wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba returns for his junior season.
USC an Intriguing Longshot
The USC Trojans are +2000 longshots win the National Title in 2022 after landing head coach Lincoln Riley out of Oklahoma. Riley is building a solid coaching staff at USC, including hiring Alex Grinch to be the program’s defensive coordinator. Grinch was OU’s DC from 2019-2021.

What makes USC worth a look in the opening 2022-23 College Football National Championship odds is the projected arrival of five-star quarterback Caleb Williams. Williams is the No. 1 quarterback in the 2021 recruiting class and reportedly visited USC over the weekend.
The Williams to USC speculation has ramped up with news Trojans’ QB Jaxson Dart has entered the transfer portal. Williams came to Oklahoma for Riley and will likely follow him to Southern Cal. Riley has produced two Heisman-winning quarterbacks.
Furthermore, ex-Oklahoma star WR Mario Williams is expected to go to the team Caleb Williams chooses. USC still has a long ways to go after a 4-8 season in the Pac-12, but their offseason is off to a promising start.

Alabama and Ohio State are both returning elite starting quarterbacks and are projected to field the most talented college football teams in 2022. Expect the National Championship odds for both programs to shorten before the season.
The Buckeyes have some nice value (+700) with their returning talent, plus the recent hire of Oklahoma State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles. Knowles turned the Cowboys’ defense into one of the best in the country and is the x-factor in bringing another Title to Columbus.
