There was only one correct response to the news that Dan Quinn had been fired as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons.
What took them so long?
Likewise, there’s only one logical response whenever Adam Gase is shown patroling the New York Jets’ sideline.
Why is this man still on the job?
Not that this question wasn’t already on the minds of most football fans, but it’s only going to grow more puzzling now that Quinn’s finally been put out of his misery.
The ongoing and lately, ever-changing prop wager regarding which NFL head coach will be the next to be removed from his position has fixed its gaze on Gase. He’s the odds-on -250 favorite to be the coach who’s that guy.
Doug Marrone (1-4) of the Jacksonville Jaguars (+250) and Matt Patricia (1-3) of the Detroit Lions (+500) are right behind Gase.

Falcons Dismissing Quinn Was Overdue
To get a sense of how much football people are dumbfounded by the fact that Gase remains gainfully employed, consider this – last week, Gase was the +185 favorite to be the next coach fired over Quinn (+220), the man who was presiding over the NFL’s most out of control dumpster fire.
Atlanta was 13-28 over the last 41 games with Quinn in charge. He survived last season despite a 1-7 start.

He outlasted becoming the first head coach in NFL history to ever blow fourth-quarter leads of 15+ points in successive games. Evidently, Sunday’s loss to the Carolina Panthers was the final straw.
The only surprise was the Falcons also issuing GM Tom Dimitroff a pink slip.
Oh-For New York
The only NFL squad situated in that state of New York, the Buffalo Bills, are 4-0. The two NFL teams that call themselves New York, even though the play home games in New Jersey – the Giants and the Jets – are a combined 0-10.
In his first year on the job, Giants head coach Joe Judge is probably safe, even though by comparison, Amy Coney Barrett looks to be the more qualified Judge.
Dan Quinn led the Falcons to a Super Bowl — he was fired midseason.

Billed as some sort of quarterback whisperer – Gase was once Peyton Manning’s QB coach and OC in Denver – the steady devolution in Jets QB Sam Darnold’s development is alarming.
On The Firing Line

Marrone is another coach who’s made NFL history this season. The Jags are the first team in NFL history to lose three straight to previously-winless clubs.

Does Zimmer Offer Value?
The Minnesota Vikings have gone from promising 2019 playoff team to 1-4 in a short span. Recent success didn’t save O’Brien’s job. Is Vikings coach Mike Zimmer in any jeopardy?

Zimmer cost them a win on Sunday. He went for it late-game on fourth down rather than kick a field goal to gain an eight-point lead.
