The fight for first place in Ligue 1 is far out of anyone’s reach with PSG running away with the title, but both Lyon and Montpellier are fighting to obtain a top-six finish and qualify for the Europa League. Unless Stade Rennes and Lille completely fall apart, the top four looks set even with nine matches left. Marseille sits comfortably in second with 56 points, while Stade Rennes and Lille are hand in hand with 50 and 49 points, respectively.

Arguably the most important fixture of Matchday 29 will be on Friday between Lyon and Stade Reims. Lyon is currently 1-0 up heading into the second leg of their round of 16 UCL tie with Juventus, however, a Champions League spot for next season looks unlikely. They’re currently in seventh, one point behind fifth and sixth place Stade Reims and Nice, so a win would be crucial as they look to finish in a Europa League spot at the very least.

All odds taken Mar. 11

Pick 1: Lyon vs Stade Reims

This is a huge match for both sides in regards to their place in the Ligue 1 table. Lyon isn’t in the best of form right now in league play, winning just twice in their last five domestic fixtures. Stade Reims, however, have suffered just one defeat in their last five matches and will look to continue their impressive form when they visit Lyon on Friday.

Lyon scores a lot more goals than their Matchday 29 counterparts, bagging 42 this term, while Reims has scored just 26 goals in 28 matches, which is just 0.9 goals per match. When these two sides last met in December, they tied 1-1.

This time around though, I believe Lyon will break out of their cold streak and secure three points which will take them ahead of Stade Reims in the table. In the process, Moussa Dembele will raise his goal total to 17 for Rudi Garcia’s side.

Pick: Lyon -112

Pick 2: Montpellier vs Marseille

This match will be played behind closed doors at La Mosson in Montpellier due to Coronavirus. However, it’s an important fixture for both sides, especially Montpellier.

They’re currently tied with Lyon on 40 points in eighth spot and if they can pull off an upset over second-place Marseille, it could take them closer to a possible Europa League spot for next season. They’ve lost three out their last four though but do have a solid record at home, losing just twice this term.

Marseille has been the class of France besides PSG of course, comfortably in second with 56 points. Dario Benedetto has been lethal for Andre Villas-Boas’ squad, firing home 11 goals this year, while Dimitri Payet has also netted nine times.

Although Montpellier and Marseille played to a 1-1 draw back in September, Montpellier has won just once in their last six appearances against Les Olympiens. With this in mind, I do believe Marseille will win on Saturday.

Pick: Marseille +170

Pick 3: Amiens SC vs Angers

Angers continues to surge up the Ligue 1 table, now in tenth place after winning three consecutive matches. During that span, they’ve defeated Montpellier, Brest, and FC Nantes. Their track record against Amiens in recent memory has been great as well, so all signs point to another victory this weekend. They’re undefeated in their last five appearances against their Matchday 29 opponents.

Amiens is having a very disappointing year, sitting in 19th place. Relegation looks like a foregone conclusion at this point, especially considering they’ve failed to win in their last 16 league meetings.

Although these two tied 1-1 in September, we’re looking at one side in wonderful form and another who is in shambles. Angers is a safe bet in this match to secure their fourth straight victory.

Pick: Angers +186
