Bundesliga Matchday 20 Odds & Picks: Freiburg vs Dortmund, Leverkusen vs Stuttgart & Hoffenheim vs Frankfurt
- As the 20th Bundesliga matchday draws closer this weekend, current league leaders Bayern Munich have a firm grip in the title race, as they sit seven points clear
- Presently, Borussia Dortmund sit outside of European qualification in sixth place which makes their match against Freiburg imperative
- In other matches around the Bundesliga, fifth place Bayer Leverkusen take on Stuttgart while fourth place Frankfurt travel to Hoffenheim
Often time people forget that the Bundesliga season only consists of 34 games. As we commence with matchday 20 starting today, the public has a basic idea of what teams will finish where. While Bayern Munich might have been doubted at the start of the season, their lead at the top is already seven points and having won four games in a row, their spot in first place is one of the most assured.
With that being said, the top four in the Bundesliga this season is utterly strange. Wolfsburg and Frankfurt who finished in seventh and ninth place last year, respectively, now have top four positions. Conversely, Dortmund who were runners-up last season are outside of both the Champions League and Europa League qualifying spots. Furthermore, five teams from third to seventh place are within a game of each other, which makes this weekend’s matches all the more important.

Freiburg vs Borussia Dortmund Prediction
The first Bundesliga match to discuss is between Freiburg and Dortmund on Saturday at 9:30 AM EST. On paper, Dortmund looked like they would give Bayern Munich a real go for the title this year. But their inconsistency is one of the constants of the German top flight. The Yellow and Black have only seen one win in their last four Bundesliga matches against Augsburg, Monchengladbach, Leverkusen and Mainz. On top of this, Dortmund will be without their first choice goalkeeper, Roman Burki, as he sits out with an apparent should injury.

Despite Dortmund’s shakiness, they have not lost this head-to-head fixture since 2010, winning 17 and drawing only three times. This season, Freiburg are right around their normal pecking position in the middle of the Bundesliga table. Similar to Dortmund, they have only managed to win once in their last four. With Dortmund missing a crucial player, I expect this one to be a draw.
My Pick: Draw (+300)
Bayer Leverkusen vs Stuttgart Prediction
The next match in the Bundesliga Matchday 20 weekend is between Leverkusen and Stuttgart. After finishing fifth in the Bundesliga last season, Bayer Leverkusen finds themselves in the same position on Matchday 20, looking to climb further into the Champions League spots. They have struggled tremendously as of late, winning only once in their last five to Dortmund. Stuttgart have been equally unsuccessful but find themselves only seven points further down in the table.
Additionally, Leverkusen has quite a long injury list which could hurt them in this match. It looks like they will be without Lars Bender, Julian Bumgartlinger and Karim Bellarabi, three crucial players to their squad. With Leverkusen’s precise defense and a handful of players out, I expect this to stay under 2.5 goals.
My Pick: Under 2.5 total goals (+155)
Hoffenheim vs Eintracht Frankfurt Prediction
The last highlighted match of the Bundesliga Matchday 20 weekend is between 12th-place Hoffenheim and fourth place Frankfurt. Frankfurt is on a really promising run as of late, with their only loss recently coming to Leverkusen in the DFB Pokal. Their success this season can be directly correlated with the brilliance of striker Andre Silva. The 25-year-old has scored 16 goals this season and will be a massive threat to Hoffenheim’s defense who have conceded 34 times this season.

Hoffenheim have not been overly poor as of late, however, they most definitely can be exposed at any given moment. As they go up against a proper attack, it will be interesting to watch how their typical offside trap works against a top-class striker. Frankfurt has scored 13 goals in just their last four matches, and while the ‘Over’ on total goals might be too easy, expecting Silva to bag one is very worthwhile.
My Pick: Andre Silva to score (-105)
