Swansea City aims to give their promotion campaign another boost when they face a tough home fixture against Middlesbrough in England’s EFL Championship on Saturday. Swansea vs Middlesbrough kicks off at 10:00 am EST Saturday morning.

As the season enters a critical phase, Swansea are hoping to secure automatic elevation to the Premier League while Middlesbrough are chasing a place in the playoffs.

Both teams showed their strength and resilience by coming from behind to secure victories in the last round of matches in midweek.

Ahead of what is likely to be a gritty and hard-fought contest, the oddsmakers at DraftKings make fourth-placed Swansea the favorites for a home win at +135.

This appears to be the best value on offer given Swansea’s ability to grind out narrow results.

Middlesbrough are in ninth place and are priced at +215. The draw is also +215.

Only 23 Goals Conceded

Steve Cooper’s Swansea team have the best defensive record in the division after conceding only 23 goals.

Further, they also have the fourth-best statistics at home at their Liberty Stadium HQ in South Wales  – where they have won ten times, drawn five and lost only twice.

Managed by veteran coach Neil Warnock, Middlesbrough are the second-lowest goalscorers in the top ten with 40 goals.

On the road, they are the ninth-best side in the competition after six wins, five draws and six defeats.

Clearly, all those statistics point towards a tight and uncompromising affair this weekend.

In the battle for automatic promotion, Swansea are one point behind second-placed Brentford and third-placed Watford. But they have two games in hand over both rival clubs.

Earlier in the campaign, Swansea were one of the most consistent sides and they held on to second place throughout January.

However, they have stuttered slightly lately which made Wednesday’s 2-1 win away at Stoke City vitally important.

There was a dramatic and tight finish with Andre Ayew scoring the winner from a penalty in added time at the end.

That made it three wins in their most recent five fixtures although, during that run, they also suffered unexpected defeats against Huddersfield Town and Bristol City.

Unusually, given their defensive strength, Swansea was beaten 4-1 at Huddersfield and 3-1 at home by Bristol City.

Swansea’s record of 17 clean sheets is the best in the EFL Championship.

Nevertheless, Swansea’s overall form remains impressive with 18 wins, eight draws and six defeats to their credit.

Furthermore, their record of 17 clean sheets is the best in the EFL Championship.

Ghanaian Ayew is Swansea’s joint-leading scorer with nine goals in all competitions. His partner, Jamal Lowe, has also scored nine times across the board.

But the team’s tally of 41 goals scored is the joint-lowest in the division’s top eight along with Barnsley.

Watmore Double for ‘Boro

There was a 2-1 win for Middlesbrough when these teams met in December with Duncan Watmore scoring both goals for the winning side and Yan Dhanda replying for Swansea.

At the back, Middlesbrough are not as solid as Swansea after conceding 36 league goals.

Five points currently separate them from the top six playoff places.

Consequently, the club this week rewarded the 72-year-old coach Warnock with a new contract which will see him through until the end of next season.

Warnock took charge eight games from the end of last season and guided the relegation-threatened team to safety.

Swansea vs Middlesborough Best Bet

A winner in the 87th minute from substitute George Saville secured a valuable 2-1 victory away at Coventry City in ‘Boro’s most recent fixture last Tuesday.

That was welcome after a run of two games without a win.

Swansea are unbeaten in their last five home matches against Middlesbrough in all competitions.

Watmore is the leading scorer with six goals – all of them in the Championship.

Obviously, this is further evidence of the team’s sparse returns in the attack.

Significantly, Swansea is unbeaten in their last five home matches against Middlesbrough in all competitions.

Having unexpectedly lost that most recent home game against Bristol City, Swansea will be keen to re-establish the idea that their home is a fortress.

Pick: Swansea City+135
