  • Griffin are now favored to win the LCK Summer Split
  • Is there any hope of SKT T1 making a resurgence in the second half of the split?
  • Are there any other teams that should be seriously considered to claim the title?

With the LCK Summer Split approaching their fourth week of play, the reigning champs of Korea have been off to a rough start in the final split of the year. Prior to the second split of the year getting underway, SKT T1, was the favorite coming into the Summer Split sitting at +160 odds, but are now listed at +900.

Taking over the number one spot in the odds table is Griffin, who sat just behind SKT in the odds the first time we took a look. Are SKT done for? Is Griffin the right pick? Or Is there possibly a sleeper team that should be looked at more seriously to come out on top of LCK Summer?

Will SKT T1 Find Their Form?

So far in the Summer Split, SKT T1, has only managed to find a win in their first game of the split over Jin Air Green Wings, who finished in last place in the Spring Split with a 1-17 record. SKT T1 barely managed to find that win too, coming down to a third game in the series to decide the winner.

SKT honestly should have been 2-0’d in that series, but Jin Air managed to throw the first game away, and lost despite finishing with a gold lead. Since barely grinding out a win in the first week, SKT have been on a five game loss streak and currently sit in ninth place in the LCK.

They certainly have the talent to turn things around and battle back to make the playoffs in the Summer Split, but the winning needs to start now. If they aren’t able to string together a series of wins over these next few weeks then their playoffs hopes may be shattered.

They did come out slow to the Spring Split too but managed to claim the title when all was said and done, so they may just be able to do it again. I’m not sure how much I would count on that happening, though.

Back on Top?

Heading into the season everyone had Griffin slated as the team that would not only rule over Korea, but also do serious damage on the international stage. They started off very well in the Spring Split before faltering in the back half, eventually falling to SKT in the finals via a 3-0 sweep.

Heading into the season everyone had Griffin slated as the team that would not only rule over Korea, but also do serious damage on the international stage.

They seem to be starting off the Summer Split in similar fashion, holding a 5-1 record thus far with the only loss coming to Sandbox Gaming. Whether they can make it through the entire split and keep their current form remains to be seen, but if we’re looking at the past as an indicator, it doesn’t look good. Griffin always seem to fall just short, so maybe this time around they will be able to get it done and claim their first LCK title.

Sleeper Picks to Rule to The LCK

It’s more or less been assumed that either SKT or Griffin will be the teams to sit atop the LCK all season long, but there may be a few other teams worth keeping an eye on to come out on top in the Summer Split. Sandbox Gaming and Kingzone DragonX are two teams that I would say stand a pretty good chance of hoisting the trophy.

Both teams have performed well at the beginning of the Summer Split, and have each found wins over some pretty serious teams in the LCK. I suspect that both will finish near the top of the table, so if they are able to keep the same level of play in the playoffs then both should be at least considered to win the Summer Split.

Pick: Griffin (+150)
