  • The LEC Summer Split is approaching its fourth week
  • Will any team be able to best G2?
  • Can Fnatic win their next seven matches after hot start?

The LEC Summer Split is through three weeks of its nine week season, and so far the reigning champs are not seated at the top of the standings where everyone expected them to be. G2, coming off of winning MSI, which was the first international event win for an EU since Season One, are sitting in second place in the LEC behind their rival, Fnatic.

Fnatic are a perfect 6-0 to start the split, a far cry from where they were sitting earlier in the year when they opened the Spring Split with a 3-7 record. Will Fnatic be able to hold the lead over G2 for the remainder in the Summer Split, or will they once again fall to EU’s superteam?

Coasting Along

Though G2 ended up coming out on the losing end of their first matchup with Fnatic, I don’t have any doubt that they will be the ones to come out on top when all is said and done. The two teams have been considered the top two teams in the region for some time now, but I don’t think it is really as close as some people think it is between the two.

The flexibility of the G2 roster is unlike any team that I have ever seen, they could pull out team comps/strategies that may have never been seen before in professional League of Legends at any given time. Besides the fact that they can bring new looks constantly, the talent on their roster is also insane. Just last month G2 were still being offered at plus-money odds of +170.

Fnatic do have a very good squad but I just don’t see them realistically beating G2 in a best of five series. G2 are coming off of a historic win at MSI, and I think they’re honestly taking it easy in the LEC so far because they know that they can and still get away with winning the majority of their games.

It’s a real grind for the top teams in League of Legends because you don’t really end up having a break all year long until after Worlds. I think that since G2 know they can turn it on whenever they want, they’re taking this split a little easy and saving themselves for the playoffs because they know they will make it their regardless.

Don’t get me wrong, Fnatic may be able to push G2 further than any team has in the LEC this season but I just don’t see a world where G2 doesn’t win the LEC Summer Split. They may drop a game here and there, but come playoff time I wouldn’t be surprised if they manage a perfect win percentage on their way to their second LEC title of the year.

Pick: G2 (-190)

13-0 Start in the Cards for Fnatic?

Fnatic have started off the LEC Summer Split with a perfect 6-0 record, and now there is a prop being offered that they win the next seven. They’re going to be playing against a few decent teams during the stretch, so there is definitely the possibility that they aren’t able to reach 13-0, but I think they should be able to pull it off.

There are only two teams I could see beating them during the stretch, and they are Splyce and Origen. If they are able to find the win over Splyce, I would say that the likelihood of them succeeding in this prop is pretty high.

Pick: Yes

The Perfect Season

It’s a very rare sight to see a team in League of Legends go undefeated for an entire split, but after their 6-0 start there is a prop being offered that Fnatic can do just that. Though I think they will win their next seven in a row their eighth game will be against G2.

Though I think Fnatic will win their next seven in a row their eighth game will be against G2.

Like I said before, I feel like G2 are maybe using this spilt as a kind of cooling off period where they don’t go super hard so they can try to conserve themselves for the playoffs and Worlds. Though I have a feeling that if they know they can be the ones to ruin their rivals unbeaten streak they will do everything in their power to do so. For that reason I wouldn’t bank on the  perfect season coming to fruition for Fnatic.

Pick: No
