  • There are seven games on the MLB schedule for Monday, April 19th
  • Season record: 19-29: -$1204 (based on $100 wagered per unit)
  • Wagering advice for Monday’s games can be found below

The MLB schedule is light Monday with just seven games but one of them will be a rare morning affair.

The Red Sox host the Chicago White Sox at 11:10 a.m. ET at Fenway Park in the annual Patriot’s Day game in Boston. Nathan Eovaldi (2-1, 2.08 ERA) will pitch for the Red Sox against Lucas Giolito (1-0, 2.55) and try to contain shortstop Tim Anderson, who led off Sunday’s twinbill at Fenway with a home run.

The Red Sox have been playing a morning home game on the third Monday in April in conjunction with the Boston Marathon since 1959. Though the marathon has been moved to Oct. 11 because of the pandemic, the Patriot’s Day tradition continues at Fenway.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are Monday’s biggest favorites as -200 choices over the Seattle Mariners. The Dodgers will start Dustin May (1-0, 1.74) against left-hander Justus Sheffield (0-1, 4.91).

April 19 MLB Picks

Matchup Pick and Odds at DraftKings Units Risked
White Sox vs Red Sox Red Sox (-103) 1 unit
Cardinals vs Nationals Cardinals (-113) 1 unit
Brewers vs Padres Under 7 (-102) 1 unit

Odds as of April 19th

Pick 1: Red Sox (-103)

The White Sox swept the doubleheader from the Red Sox on Sunday and will try to win the four-game series Monday. Boston had won 10 of 11 games prior to being swept.

The hard-throwing Eovadi is off to a fine start to the season, allowing two earned runs or fewer in all three starts. He has 14 strikeouts in 17.1 innings with four walks.

Eovaldi gets plenty of balls hit on the ground, too.

Eovaldi’s 2021 is a continuation of last season when he was 4-2 with a 3.72 ERA in nine starts. That came after a dismal 2019 in which he had a 5.99 ERA on the heels of helping the Red Sox win the World Series a year earlier.

Giolito was outstanding in his last start as he pitched seven scoreless innings against Cleveland and Shane Bieber. Giolito did not factor in the decision as Cleveland won 2-0 in 10 innings.

Through three starts, Giolito has struck out 26 in 17.1 innings while walking five. He has never beaten the Red Sox in three career starts, though, going 0-0 with a 3.71 ERA.

Pick 2: Cardinals (-113)

Jack Flaherty (2-0, 4.11) goes for the visiting St. Louis Cardinals against the Washington Nationals’ Joe Ross (1-0, 0.00) at 7:05 p.m. in the opener of a three-game series at Nationals Park.

Ross also faced the Nationals his last time out and pitched six shutout innings in a 6-0 victory at St. Louis. He gave up four hits and one walk while striking out five.

After opting out of last season because of COVID-19 concerns, Ross has been sharp as he has yet to give up a run in 11 innings.

He also has a 3-0 career record against the Cardinals with a 2.86 ERA in six games. Flaherty has been outstanding in his last two starts after a rocky season debut. In 12 innings, he has struck out 11 while allowing one run and four hits.

The 25-year-old has showed flashes of brilliance during his five years in the major leagues and some talent evaluators believe this is the season he breaks out into a star. He doesn’t rattle.

The law of averages say the Cardinals will get to Ross at some point, just like they say St. Louis should be ready to turn things around after losing six of its last eight games. The Cardinals have too much talent to keep sputtering.

Pick 3: Brewers-Padres Under 7 (+102)

The Milwaukee Brewers send Brandon Woodruff (0-0, 2.12) to the mound against the Padres’ Joe Musgrove (2-1, 0.47) at 10:10 p.m. to open a three-game series at Petco Park.

Musgrove has taken his game to another level since being acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates in an offseason trade. He threw the first no-hitter in the Padres’ 52-year history on April 9 at the Texas Rangers and has allowed only one run on seven hits in 19 innings over two starts with 24 strikeouts and two walks.

The big right-hander has even taken a turn in left field.

Woodruff allowed only one run in six innings in his last start against the Chicago Cubs even though he said he felt his throwing mechanics were off through much of the outing. He remains one of the best-kept secrets in baseball despite posting a 14-8 record and 3.31 ERA in 38 starts since the beginning of the 2019 season.

Between these two pitchers and the nighttime marine layer hanging over spacious Petco, the conditions are ripe for a low-scoring game.
