How to Sign-Up at a Sportsbook

The sign-up process at all sportsbooks is similar. After clicking on the links in the table, above, new customers will need to create an account, which requires providing their full legal name, date of birth, residential address (in the applicable state), email address, mobile phone number, and Social Security Number.

Once the account has been created, customers will have to make a deposit ($5 is the standard minimum deposit) in order to take advantage of almost all sportsbook promos. (Occasionally, customers can find a promo which does not require depositing real money, but they are few and far between.)

Generally, new customers do not have to provide copies of their ID in order to register. However, sportsbooks will require customers to verify their identity and address before making a withdrawal.

Customers must be at least 21 years of age before signing up at any sportsbook in the United States.

Barstool

The main Barstool promo available at the moment is a $1,000 risk-free bet. After signing up and depositing, the first real-money wager each customer makes will qualify as their risk-free bet. If the qualifying wager is graded as a loss, the customer’s account will be credited with “sportsbook cash” equal to the amount of the wager, but not exceeding $1,000.

What is “sportsbook cash”, you may be wondering? It’s cash that must be used at the sportsbook before being withdrawn. So basically customers will get a do-over on their first real-money wager if that wager loses (and is $1,000 or less).

DraftKings

The DraftKings risk-free bet promo is similar to Barstool’s, but with a couple key differences. First the down side: if a customer’s first real-money wager is graded as a loss, DraftKings will credit the customer’s account with free bets equal to the amount of the qualifying wager. Free bets are not equivalent to cash and cannot redeemed for cash or transferred. A winning wager made with a free bet will only return the profit, not the original stake.

On the plus side, the DraftKings promo also comes with a $50 free bet right off the bat. If customers lose their first wager, getting “sportsbook cash” in return is better value than free bets. But if they win their first wager, the DraftKings promo is better value.
