  • The Milwaukee Brewers aim to bounce back from their series-opening loss to Chicago, as they battle the Cubs on Tuesday at Wrigley Field
  • Milwaukee has opened the season with losses in three of four games, while the Cubs have won three of four
  • We’ve got you covered with all the odds and trends ahead of the NL Central matchup

The Milwaukee Brewers look to avoid losing four in a row when they continue their three-game series with the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night. The Brewers dropped a 5-3 decision in Monday’s series opener to fall to 1-3 on the season. However, in the wake of that loss, Tuesday’s clash is pegged as a virtual pick ‘em.  Both the Brewers and Cubs sport -110 moneyline odds ahead of first pitch on Tuesday at 7:40 pm ET at Wrigley Field.

While Milwaukee has stumbled out of the gate, the Cubs have been steady in the early days of the season, winning three of their first four outings. Chicago has now also won three straight against the Brewers.

Here’s a look at all the odds and trends ahead of Monday’s clash between these NL Central rivals.

Brewers vs Cubs Odds

Milwaukee Brewers TBD O 9.5 (+115) -110
Chicago Cubs TBD U 9.5 (-133) -110

Odds as of April 6, 2021.

Brewers Slow Start Continues

The Brewers have picked up where they left off at the end of the 2020 MLB season. The club has failed to record consecutive wins while losing 10 of their past 14 overall contests. Milwaukee has particularly struggled on the road, where they have now lost 14 of 20 since mid-August.

A feeble attack has continued to be a problem for the Brewers, particularly on the road. The club has averaged a meagre 2.5 runs per game in their past 10 away contests, and have seen each of their past nine road defeats come by multi-run margins.

That has done little to inspire confidence in the Brewers’ ability to pay out on the attractive +140 odds to make the postseason that they sported prior to opening day. But it has spawned a boon for bettors taking the UNDER when Milwaukee plays on the road, which has paid out in nine straight.

Cubs Career Stats vs Peralta

Peralta Aiming to Solidify Spot in the Rotation

With scoring at a premium, the Brewers will turn to young righthander Freddy Peralta in Tuesday’s contest. The 24-year-old makes his first start of 2021 after spending much of last season in the Brewers bullpen. Peralta has also made just one previous appearance against the Cubs, surrendering four earned runs in 3.0 innings in a 9-1 loss last July.

While things didn’t work out in that start, Peralta has been largely steady in six career appearances against Chicago. The fireballer has thrown 4.0 innings of shutout ball over his past two relief assignments vs the Cubs, and did enough to earn the win in Milwaukee’s 4-3 victory at Wrigley on August 14. Peralta also looked good while tossing 2.0 innings in relief on opening day, scattering a pair of hits and striking out six as the Brewers topped Minnesota 6-5.

Cubs Winning with Spotty Offense

The Cubs are hoping they have turned the corner on their recent streaky play on home turf with their fast start to 2021. Chicago lost four in a row on two occasions while dropping 14 of its final 23 home dates last season. And while a 3-1 start is welcome, the Cubs have been far from dominant over the first days of the campaign.

Once again, the Cubs were forced to make their hits count in Monday’s victory. Three of the club’s five hits on the night came in the fourth inning, with Willson Contreras, David Bote, and Javier Baez all connecting on solo home runs to put the game out of reach. The Cubs are averaging just 4.25 hits per game, and an equal number of runs per game, through their first four outings.

Brewers Career Stats vs Alzolay

Player AVG AB HR RBI

Alzolay Makes First Start

Adbert Alzolay is expected to head to the hill for the Cubs in Tuesday’s contest. The 26-year-old right-hander made just four starts last season, compiling a 1-1 record and a respectable 2.95 ERA. He will be facing the Brewers for the first time in his career.

While still a raw talent, Alzolay’s arsenal features a scorching fastball. He also steadily gained confidence down the stretch last season. Alzolay recorded 15 total strikeouts over his last two starts, while allowing just four hits and two earned runs over 9.0 total innings of work.

The Picks: Cubs (-110); UNDER 9.5 (-133)
