Los Angeles vs San Diego Probable Pitchers

Tony Gonsolin (16-1, 2.14) is scheduled to start for the Dodgers against left-hander Blake Snell (8-10, 3.43). Gonsolin will be pitching on 10 days of rest and Snell on five.

Gonsolin vs Snell

Tony Gonsolin
VS
Blake Snell
16-1 Record 8-10
2.14 ERA 3.43
3.12 xERA 3.19
0.87 WHIP 1.25
3.40 SO/W 3.09

Gonsolin has pitched only once since returning from the injured list after missing nearly six weeks with a strained right forearm.

He was activated Oct. 3 and pitched two innings against the Colorado Rockies in a no-decision in Los Angeles. He gave up one run and three hits, struck out three and walked none. Gonsolin won five straight starts before being injured.

Against the Padres, Gonsolin has a perfect 4-0 record and 1.45 ERA in six games (five starts). He is 2-0 with a 1.00 ERA in two games (one start) at Petco Park.

Gonsolin will be making his fourth career postseason start and eighth appearance. He has a 1-2 mark and 3.33 ERA.

Manager Dave Roberts says Gonsolin will be on an approximately 75-pitch limit and likely be followed by either Dustin May or left-hander Andrew Heaney.

Gonsolin has not lost on the road this season in 11 starts, going 7-0 with a 2.66 ERA. He is 13-1 at night with a 2.10 ERA in 20 starts. The Dodgers have won 19 of Gonsolin’s 24 outings.

Snell had a shaky outing last Saturday in Game 2 of the Padres’ NL Wild Card Series with the Mets in New York as he allowed six walks in 3.1 innings of a no-decision. He was charged with two runs on four hits and had five strikeouts.

However, Snell has a sparkling 1.84 ERA in his last three starts despite a 0-1 record.

Snell has made 11 career starts against the Dodgers, going 1-1 with a 2.54 ERA. He has a 2-3 career postseason record and 3.05 ERA in 10 games (eight starts).

Snell is fan friendly – even in enemy territory.

At home this season, Snell is just 4-8 with a 3.56 ERA in 15 starts. He is 7-6 with a 2.83 ERA in 17 starts at night. The Padres have gone just 9-15 when Snell gets the ball.

Dodgers vs Padres Betting Trends

Manny Machado homered and hit an RBI double in the Padres’ win in Game 2 on Wednesday night. He has +10000 NL MVP odds.

Profar also had two hits. He singled in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning.

The Dodgers’ runs came on solo home runs by Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy and Trea Turner. Freeman, Muncy and Lux had two hits each.

Roberts plans to make one lineup change. Left fielder Chris Taylor will start in place of center fielder Cody Bellinger while Trayce Thompson will move from left to center.

Taylor missed the first two games of the series because of neck soreness.

The Dodgers lead the season series 15-6, including going 6-3 in San Diego. Since 2008, Los Angeles has a 177-99 record against the Padres.

Padres vs Dodgers Prediction

The Dodgers don’t figure to get too many outs from Gonsolin, so Roberts will likely have to rely heavily on the bullpen. However, Snell looks like a fade candidate following his erratic outing in New York.

Pick: Dodgers ML (-127)
