  • The New York Mets are -195 home favorites over the Washington Nationals in the first game of a twinbill on Thursday, August 12
  • Wednesday’s second game of a scheduled doubleheader between the two teams was rained out
  • The Nats have won five of nine from the Mets this season

Since they were already heading south in the standings, the Washington Nationals (50-63, 21-33 away) staged a housecleaning prior to the MLB trade deadline. The New York Mets (57-55, 34-20), on the other hand, also find themselves heading south due to regular clock cleanings.

The Mets are more like a New York Mess. They’ve lost 11 of their past 16 games, plummeting all the way to third place in the NL East. New York held the division lead from May 9 through August 5.

Washington, just two years removed from a World Series win, gutted most of what remained of that championship roster via deadline deals. The Nationals have lost seven of their last eight games.

At home, the Mets are -195 favorites to extend their winning streak to two games. New York outscored Washington 8-7 in the opener of Wednesday’s scheduled double dip.
