Betting on the Detroit Tigers not to score runs is almost a daily ritual. Detroit is 27th in MLB with 0.35 runs scored per first inning this season.

The Tigers are traveling to the Windy City to face Chicago’s south siders, the White Sox. On the road, Detroit is averaging an MLB-worst 0.12 runs per first inning during the 2022 campaign.

The White Sox are 26th in first inning runs scored (0.36). Chicago’s 0.30 home average of first inning runs scored is tied for second worst in all of MLB.

Chicago’s other team, the Cubs, are the top YRFI club in the National League. They’re averaging 0.71 runs per first inning this season.

The Cubs are playing at Dodger Stadium against the Los Angeles Dodgers. LA has scored 0.60 first inning runs per game, good for eighth in MLB.

The New York Mets are the best first five innings team in MLB. They are 43-23-16 this season on the first five moneyline. At home, they are 26-8.

The Mets and Marlins played a four-game series last month at Citi Field.  New York was ahead on the scoreboard after five innings in two of the games.

Elsewhere, the Houston Astros are sending Jose Urquidy to the hill against the Oakland Athletics. He’s showing an impressive 11-4 record over the first five innings. To add to the possibility that Urquidy will lead again after five, the Athletics haven’t named a starting pitcher.

On the other side of the equation, the San Francisco Giants are facing the San Diego Padres and Blake Snell. The Padres southpaw is 0-6-1 over the first five innings this season.
