  • Both the visiting Boston Red Sox and hometown Baltimore Orioles are given -110 odds in their American League game scheduled for Friday, August 19
  • Baltimore is 26-12 straight up since July 3
  • See the Red Sox vs Orioles odds and picks, below

It’s been a long time since the Boston Red Sox (59-60, 30-30 away) were looking up at the Baltimore Orioles (61-57, 33-22 home) in the AL East Division standings. About as long as it’s been since the Orioles were playing meaningful games in August.

The Orioles are among the hottest teams in MLB over the past two months. Meanwhile, Boston is among the poorest teams in baseball during the same stretch of time.

Oddsmakers don’t appear to be as sold on the disparity between the two teams, however. Both the Red Sox and Orioles are being given -110 odds as they open a three-game series in Baltimore. With a 76-42 record, the Orioles are the best team in MLB against the run line this season.

Baltimore has won 26 of 38 games since July 3. The Red Sox have lost 26 of 43 games since July 1. Thursday, they fell below .500 by dropping an 8-2 decision to the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates.

First pitch at Oriole Park at Camden Yards is set for 7:05pm ET on Friday, August 19. Cloudy skies with 8 mph wind and a temperature of 84 degrees are in the weather forecast.

At odds of -110, betting on either the Red Sox or Orioles will offer an implied probability of victory of 52.38% in the MLB betting line. A winning $10 wager would deliver a payout of $19.10.

In the MLB Division odds, the betting line is displaying the Red Sox as the +3000 fourth betting option to win the AL East. Baltimore is the fifth betting choice at +100000 in the division. The MLB pennant odds show Baltimore at +10000 and the Red Sox at +5000. In the World Series odds, Baltimore is +25000 and Boston is +17000.

Boston vs Baltimore Probable Pitchers

Right-hander Kutter Crawford is proving to be one of the few bright spots in the midst of a season that is spiraling downward for the Red Sox. He was 2-2 with a 2.57 ERA during July.

However, Crawford hasn’t been as effective in August. He’s 1-1 with a 4.24 ERA. Crawford has allowed seven earned runs through his past 11 innings of work.

He faced the Orioles once this season on May 1 and it didn’t end well. Working in relief, Crawford failed to retire a batter, allowing a walk and a home run by Rougned Odor.

That’s his only career appearance against Baltimore. Crawford is 2-2 with a 4.30 in 10 road appearances this season, including four starts.

For the most part lately, the MLB lineups being sent out to play behind Orioles right-hander Jordan Lyles are leaving the diamond with a smile on their faces when they depart at the completion of their night’s work. Lyles is 3-1 over his last four starts.

Over his last four home starts, Lyles is 3-0 with a 2.01 ERA. He’s struck out 17 over his past 16.1 innings on the mound.

Lyles faced Boston twice previously this season. He’s 1-0 with a 3.48 ERA.

Over his career, Lyles is 2-1 with a 5.23 in six starts against Boston. At home this season, he’s 4-2 with a 2.73 ERA in 10 starts.

Red Sox vs Orioles Prediction

The Red Sox like to bat against Lyles. They’ve hit him hard.

Crawford is a pleasant surprise for Boston since the Red Sox were moving him into their starting rotation.
