First pitch at PNC Park on Wednesday, May 25 is set for 12:35 pm ET. There’s clouds, 9 mph wind and a temperature of 76 degrees in the forecast.

Taking into account the favorite’s moneyline odds of -130 means the Cubs are being assigned an implied probability of victory of 56.52%. Bet $10 on them to win and a successful wager returns a payout of $17.70.

At 64.5, the Pirates were given the lowest NL win total in all of baseball when this MLB betting line was established at the start of the season. Currently, they’re on pace to win 68 games, so a play on the over might be worth a look.

Rockies Recalling Feltner for Spot Start

The Rockies are summoning right-hander Ryan Feltner from Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes to get the start against Pittsburgh on Wednesday afternoon. He’s made one start for the big club this season and that was also in Pennsylvania.

Feltner took the hill April 27 at Philadelphia and took the loss in a 7-3 setback to the Phillies. He worked five innings, allowing seven hits and four earned runs.

This will be Feltner’s fourth big-league start. He’s 0-2 with a 9.53 ERA and a 2.03 WHIP in 11.1 innings of work.

Feltner vs Thompson

5.43 xERA 4.39
1.80 WHIP 1.47

Both of the wins posted this season by Pirates right-hander Zach Thompson have come during the month of May.

Entering the month, he was 0-3 with a 10.05 ERA in four starts. During May, Thompson is 2-1 with an 0.53 ERA and 0.83 WHIP. He hasn’t surrendered a single home run or extra-base hit and has allowed only one earned run the entire month.

Thompson is 1-2 with a 3.26 ERA in four starts this season at PNC Park. He’s 4-3 with a 2.43 in 12 day-game appearances, including nine starts. This will be Thompson’s first career appearance facing the Rockies.

There’s virtually no history of either team’s batters facing Wednesday’s starting pitchers. Kris Bryant of the Rockies is 0-for-2 against Thompson, and that’s it. Bryant has a sore lower back and is unlikely to play on Wednesday.

Colorado’s offense on the road this season is among the worst in all of baseball. The Rockies rank last in runs per game (2.6) and home runs (10). They’re 19th in the majors with a .228 road batting average.

Rockies vs Pirates Prediction

Even with Tuesday’s win, Colorado is 1-4 SU when playing in Pennsylvania this season. They were swept by Philadelphia in a four-game series in April.

The Rockies have also lost their last five series. They are 6-10 in day games this season, while the Pirates are 7-11. Pittsburgh’s daytime 5.11 ERA is the second-worst in MLB. Colorado (4.79) is 26th overall.

The Pirates are 6-8 in their last 14 home games. But Thompson is absolutely dealing in May.

Pick: Pittsburgh Pirates ML (-130)
