The best rivalry in baseball is back at it on Friday. The New York Yankees (39-30, 18-13 away) hit the road to visit their biggest foes in the sport the Boston Red Sox (34-35, 18-18 home) at Fenway Park. The first pitch for the series opener is scheduled for 7:10 PM ET.

This is the exact same pitching matchup as last Saturday when these two teams met. Domingo German gets the ball for the Yanks, while the Red Sox counter with Tanner Houck.

New York vs Boston Probable Pitchers

German is having a very good season for the Bronx Bombers, proving to be one of Aaron Boone’s most reliable starters. The right-hander is 4-3 with a solid 3.49 ERA in 12 outings. He hasn’t allowed more than one run in his last two starts, either.

The Dominican has struck out 64 batters in 67 innings while surrendering 21 walks. The most impressive part? His WHIP sits at 0.99. German is very familiar with the Red Sox, posting a lifetime 3.64 ERA.

Houck meanwhile is having an up-and-down campaign lacking consistency. He owns a 3-6 record and 5.23 ERA, compiling 62 K’s against 22 free passes. The righty actually threw the ball rather well against the Yanks last Saturday, allowing two earned runs on three hits in six innings of work. The long ball proved to be an issue though, with both runs coming via the homer.

Prior to that, Houck also gave up four earned in each start. On a more positive note, he does have a history of success vs New York, posting a 2.41 ERA in 10 career appearances, including five starts.

Red Sox Looking to Bounce Back

Winning two out of three against the Yankees is a certain feather in the cap. However, the Red Sox couldn’t carry that success over to their three-game set with the lowly Rockies, who won the first two of the series before Boston took the finale.

Alex Cora’s group is now 4-6 in their last 10 contests. They actually have one of the best MLB lineups around, but their pitching is a letdown with a team ERA of 4.54. After scoring a mere one run off German last weekend, the offense will be looking to do a bit more damage off him this time around.

Yanks Trying to Stay Afloat Without Judge

Aaron Judge is still out with a big toe injury and Aaron Boone essentially has no idea when he’ll be back. Unfortunately, things haven’t gone so well for the Yankees since he went on the shelf, compiling a 3-5 record.

New York just split a two-game set with the Mets in the Subway Series and has been lacking that offensive spark. They’ve only scored more than three runs once in the last four games.
