The 76ers (1-3, 0-1 away) and Raptors (2-2, 1-0 home) are going to be sick of each other by the end of the week. The two teams will square off in Toronto on Wednesday, and then in a weird scheduling quirk will play again in Toronto two nights later.

The Raptors have faced a daunting schedule so far, playing four straight games against upper tier Eastern Conference competition. They’ll face another in Philly, and oddsmakers couldn’t pick a favorite for Wednesday’s tilt in the NBA odds.

Toronto Raptors Betting Analysis

The big story out of Toronto ahead of this contest is the health of Scottie Barnes. Last year’s rookie of the year sat out Monday’s 98-90 victory over Miami with a sprained ankle, and is listed questionable for the matchup with Philly.

Without Barnes, the Raps stole a victory from the Heat, thanks to some suffocating defense and clutch shooting down the stretch. Trailing by 5 heading into the fourth, Toronto outscored Miami 27-14 over the final frame, burying five triples along the way.

The Raps made 14 three’s in the game, led by Fred VanVleet’s 24 points. Toronto’s All-Star point guard was 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, while Gary Trent Jr. also splashed four triples.

Pascal Siakam added 23 points and Precious Achiuwa gobbled up 22 boards, as the Raps held a 27-13 advantage on the break, and a 36-34 advantage in the paint. They won the rebounding and assist battle, while racking up six steals and six blocks.

They held Miami to 35% from the field, and a dismal 23.5% from three. It may be early, but Nick Nurse has got his team playing strong defense yet again. Toronto ranks fourth in scoring defense, 13th in opponent field goal percentage, and are ninth best at defending the three.

Offensively, the team has some work to do. Only three squads average fewer points per game, while the Raps boast the league’s fifth worst field goal percentage. Needless to say, they could certainly benefit from Barnes’ presence at the offensive end.

Philadelphia 76ers Betting Analysis

The Sixers enter play fresh off their first win of the season. After dropping three straight, two which came against top NBA Championship odds contenders Boston and Milwaukee, Philly pummelled Indiana 120-106. James Harden and Joel Embiid led the charge, while the 76ers poured in 19 threes.

Harden finished with 29 points and 11 assists, while Embiid, a top-five NBA MVP odds contender, added 26. They shot 47.5% from the field and 44.2% from three, racing out to a 19-point first half lead and never looking back.

This was by far their best offensive performance through four games, after struggling to score in back-to-back outings. Embiid is reportedly dealing with plantar fasciitis, which helps explain his slow start. He’s averaging less than 27 points per outing so far, after leading the league in scoring last season.

Defensively, they held the Pacers to 42% from the field, a big improvement from disappointing efforts versus the Spurs and Celtics. New additions Danuel House Jr. and De’Anthony Melton each had their best performance as a Sixer, finishing +15 and +11 respectively.

76ers vs Raptors Prediction

The Raps were 3-1 during the regular season last year against Philly with Barnes healthy. Of course the Sixers waxed Toronto in the opening round of the playoffs, but that’s only after Barnes went down in Game 1 and wasn’t close to 100% when the returned later in the series.

The Raps historically have done an excellent job against Embiid, frustrating the 7-footer and forcing him into bad decisions. He shot below 50% versus them five times last season, including a 6-of-20 effort late in the campaign.

Toronto’s offense showed life on Monday, and should be able to do damage against a Sixers D that ranks below league average in enemy field goal percentage.

If Barnes plays, and the fact that’s been upgraded to questionable suggests he will, fire up the Raptors on the moneyline.

Pick: Toronto Raptors Moneyline (-110) **If Barnes plays**
