  • Joel Embiid (foot) is questionable for this Sunday matchup
  • Read below for the 76ers vs Knicks preview with odds and prediction

The Philadelphia 76ers (34-17, 14-9 away) will look for their 9th-straight road win when they visit the New York Knicks (28-26, 13-15 home).

They may however, have to do it without all-star big man Joel Embiid.

Embiid, a top-4 candidate in the 2023 NBA MVP odds, is dealing with left foot soreness, and is officially questionable.

New York will be playing the second night of a back-to-back after losing to the Clippers Saturday night, their seventh loss in the last 10.

It all gets under way Sunday (Feb 5) at 6pm ET from Madison Square Garden, in a game you can see live on ESPN.

Embiid’s status delayed the NBA odds for this one, eventually settling in with the 76ers as 6-point favorites late Saturday night.

The Knicks currently hold down seventh in the East, 1.5 games back of Miami for sixth and above the play-in fray. Of the 20 teams in playoff or play-in position, New York is one of just two teams with a losing home record.

Philadelphia Betting Analysis

The 3rd-seeded 76ers have been in quite the groove since New Year’s eve. Philly has lost just three times in their last 17, winning in San Antonio 137-125 last time out to kick off a 3-game trip.

Embiid was the driving force in this one, dropping 33 points and 10 rebounds. James Harden had 16 points and eight assists, while Tyrese Maxey, now a super-6th man for the Sixers, poured in 25 points and four assists in a tidy 27 minutes of work.

The 76ers have been lights-out offensively during this road streak, putting up 120 points per game — a 6-point bump from their season average. They are also shooting 49.9% from the field and 37.9% from distance.

Philly also boasts the 4th-best scoring defense in the NBA, holding teams to 111 points per game, and they are the top 3-point shooting defense, holding the opposition to 34.2% from beyond the arc.

New York Betting Analysis

It was a shootout at MSG, and the Knicks were outgunned by the visiting Clippers in a 134-128 OT loss.

Jalen Brunson dropped a game-high 41 points, with five rebounds and seven assists in his return to the lineup from a non-COVID illness. Julius Randle added 28 points, 11 rebounds and seven dimes. It was a struggle for RJ Barrett, who shot just 6-for-21 on a team-high 44 minutes, finishing with 14 points.

They didn’t have an answer for Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, who combined for 65 points, sending the Knicks to another home loss — they’re the only team in the NBA to have a winning record, with a losing record at home.

Defense has been New York’s problem during this slide, surrendering 121.2 points per game, with opponents drilling threes at a 38.8% clip.

76ers vs Knicks Betting Prediction

This will be the third meeting between these teams this season, with each side claiming a victory prior.

New York has fought on the second night of a back-to-back, going 3-3-1 against the spread in their previous seven games. Philly hasn’t capitalized much with extra days off, running an 8-7 record ATS when they enjoy the rest advantage.

This is a Sixers squad that has gone 4-0 ATS in their last five road games, and 5-1 ATS in their last six against teams with a losing home record.

The Knicks have been a good bet against the NBA heavies of late, though, going 6-1 ATS in their last seven against teams with a winning percentage of .600 or better.

The status of Embiid looms above all. If he’s a go, the 76ers should be able to keep rolling. Otherwise, getting six points for New York would likely be the wiser wager.

Pick:

  • 76ers -6 (-110); 1.5 units to win 1.31 units
  • NBA Betting Record: 25-23-1 ATS, 1-1 ML, 4-6 o/u, 0-2 parlays; -5.68 units
