The Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics will renew their rivalry in primetime on Saturday when they meet for the first time this season. The Celtics come into this one after blowing a fourth quarter lead to the San Antonio Spurs in their last game.

Lebron James and the Lakers didn’t fare much better in their last game losing to the lowly Detroit Pistons 107-92, in a game where Anthony Davis watched in street clothes.

This series has been even with each team winning three of the last six matchups after the Lakers took the last one 114-112 last February. In this matchup the Lakers are 3 point favorites and there are plenty of player props to consider.

Since Anthony Davis’ status is still unknown, we will look at the Celtics’ side of the ball.

Jayson Tatum is a Beast

Jayson Tatum is a legitimate superstar in the NBA. He may not be mentioned with LeBron James, Kevin Durant or Giannis Antetokounmpo when talking about the MVP race, but he is well on his way. At the very least, he is an NBA All-Star that brings it every single night.

In his past five games, he has scored at least 24 points in all of them. He has taken 20+ shots in four of those games with the exception being a game where he only took 19. He scored 40 that night. Tatum is averaging 21.8 shots per night which is three more than his career high of 18.6 coming into the season. Simply put, he is becoming “the man” in Boston right in front of us.

The Lakers are the best defense in the NBA in terms of efficiency and are at their best when on the road. That was the story last season as well when Tatum went for 41 and 27 in the two meeting between the clubs. Even more impressive, he only took 38 shots from the field in the two games combined.

Another part of Tatum’s game is his rebounding. He’s averaging 6.8 per game which is just a tick under his career-high of seven that he established last season. The last game the Lakers played with Anthony Davis in the lineup, they allowed Ben Simmons to grab 11 boards and Tobias Harris to pull down seven. If Davis is able to play tonight, Tatum’s rebounding number is still in play.

The bet that stands out the most is Tatum’s points plus rebounds number. At 30.5 he could easily cover that in points alone but if he doesn’t, the rebounds could make up the difference.

One player that doesn’t seem to get respect from the sports books on a nightly basis is Jaylen Brown. For tonight’s game the books set his points total at 22.5 which seems a little low given his output for the season. He has hit that total six games in a row now and is a good bet to do it again tonight.

Brown can thank an uptick in usage for the career-year numbers he’s putting up this season. He’s gone from a 24.7% rate last year to a 31.5% mark this season. He’s making the most of his opportunity too as he setting career-highs in two-point shooting percentage, three-point percentage and even free throw percentage. Look for him to continue his career year tonight.
