East and West collide when the Milwaukee Bucks play host to the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night. Luka Doncic and the Mavericks have started 2021 on fire, winning five of their first six games of the new year.

Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks are just as hot, winning six of their first seven games in 2021 including three straight.

Dallas has won the last two matchups after Milwaukee had taken three straight in the series. The Bucks are favored by 5.5 points in this matchup and there are plenty of player props to consider.

Luka Can Make It Rain

Only four teams in the NBA allow fewer points in the paint than the Milwaukee Bucks. They are a sound defensive team that is top ten in the NBA in defensive efficiency. What makes them special is the fact that they are the highest scoring team in the league, averaging 120.9 points per game.

Teams are forced to try to keep pace and most are attempting a chuck and duck style approach. Teams seem to abandon the inside game and settle for threes as evidenced by the Bucks’ opponents shooting an average of 36.7 three-pointers per game – which is ninth most in the NBA.

This plays into the hands of the Mavericks, who typically shoot 40 threes per game, which is fifth in the league.

Doncic struggled with his three-ball to begin the season but ever since the calendar flipped to 2021, things have changed. He has taken at least nine attempts from long range and hit at least three of them in four of the five games.

He’s coming off of a game where he hit a season high five treys so he’s feeling it from deep. This game could script out to one that sees the Mavericks trailing late, which could further force his hand into dialling it up from long distance. If it does, it’s not crazy to think Luka covers this number.

The Pick: Luka Doncic Over 3.5 Three-Pointers Made (+136)

Luka Does It All

Whenever there is a player with the type of usage rate Doncic enjoys, it’s wise to check out the points + assists + rebounds market. Bettors will obviously pay a premium for superstars like Doncic, but there is still value on some nights. In a game like tonight where both teams will be “up”, it makes sense to consider Luka’s all-around number.

FanDuel currently has Doncic’s pts + reb + ast number at 48.5, which seems a bit low given how well he has played recently.

In five games played in 2021, Doncic is averaging 53.4 pts + reb + ast per game. He has gone over 48.5 in four of the five games with the only exception being a game where he had a triple-double against Orlando. He only scored 20 points in 34 minutes in that game which ultimately led to him falling short.

The Mavericks were favored and blew out a short-handed Magic team which should not be the case tonight against the Bucks.

The Pick: Luka Doncic Over 48.5 Pts + Reb + Ast (-110)
