  • The NBA season rolls on Monday (Feb. 7th) with a five-game slate
  • Player props are available to bet for many of the league’s biggest stars
  • See below to find out where we think the betting value lies

It’s a light night in the NBA with just five games on the schedule. Nevertheless, the slate is not short on star power.

Both Phoenix and Miami, the top-two teams in the league are in action, as are Miami and Chicago, the first and second seeds in the East. Stars like Steph Curry, Devin Booker and Chris Paul will all be very heavily targeted in the player props market, but just not on our card.

Odds as of Feb. 7th at DraftKings and FanDuel

We’ll start our player props card in Charlotte, where Toronto shooting guard Gary Trent Jr. will look to continue his torrid stretch against the Hornets.

Pick #1: Gary Trent Jr. Over 19.5 Points

The Raptors vs Hornets matchup currently boasts Monday’s second highest total at 225.5. Charlotte is tied for the league lead in points per game, and ranks 28th in scoring defense. The combination of strong offense and lousy defense leads to plenty of shootouts, which elevates Trent’s ceiling.

The 23-year-old has been on fire over the past two weeks, eclipsing the 30-point plateau five times in seven games. One of those outings was versus the Hornets, where he torched Charlotte for 32 points on 11-of-21 shooting.

It’s worth noting that both Fred VanVleet and Scottie Barnes sat out that contest, but even with them in the lineup last Friday, Trent still got off 17 shots versus Atlanta. He’s averaging 38.3 minutes of playing time per contest in his last six games that didn’t go into overtime, and if he approaches that number again on Monday he’s a strong bet to splash at least 20 points.

Pick #2: Klay Thompson Under 3.5 Assists

Our next target is Klay Thompson, in what projects to be the most lopsided game on the slate. Thompson’s Warriors are 12.5-point favorites over the Thunder, and there’s a strong chance he doesn’t reach his season average for minutes if this game gets out of hand.

Thompson is averaging 23.5 minutes of playing time since his return last month, and has reached four assists in only four of those contests. Golden State has beaten OKC in both of their meetings this season, and in each game the Warriors starters have fallen short of their season average for playing time.

Given the spread, and the fact that the Thunder have dropped 13 of their past 17 games, there’s a high chance Thompson doesn’t see much fourth quarter action, if any at all.
