The surging Memphis Grizzlies continue their three-game road trip on Wednesday, February 2nd at Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks. The tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm ET.

Memphis has won three of their last four, but they’re coming off a heartbreaking overtime loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, who were without Joel Embiid.

The Knicks, meanwhile, beat the Kings by a comfortable 20 points on Monday at home but the team is just 4-6 in their last 10 contests and three games below .500 on the year.

This will be the first meeting between the two teams this season, but NY won both meetings last season.

Memphis Impressive on The Road

The sign of a very good team is one who can be competitive both on home court and on the road. The Grizzlies have done just that, posting a 16-9 record away from the FedEx Forum. While Taylor Jenkins’ squad continues to thrive on a nightly basis, they’re fresh off a woeful shooting performance.

Ja Morant, the runaway favorite in the 2022 NBA Most Improved Player odds, showed out once again in Philly, dropping a game-high 37 points. Second-year guard Desmond Bane also impressed, scoring 34 of his own.

However, Memphis struggled to shoot the three-ball, draining a mere 20% of their triples. That absolutely played a huge part in the three-point OT defeat. They were also inefficient from the line, shooting just 68%.

It was truly a back and forth affair against the Sixers, with Morant hitting a clutch floater with 8.1 seconds to tie the game. Seth Curry’s potential game-winning jumper rimmed out and the contest went to an extra period.

It was certainly a gritty performance from the Grizzlies, but the squad was not great defensively. After all, Embiid was out due to rest, yet Philadelphia was neck-and-neck with them. Jenkins’ group needs to find their stroke from downtown and clean up the defense on Wednesday.

Very Tough Stretch For New York

The Knicks simply can’t find any consistency lately, dropping three of their previous four games before Monday’s win against the lowly Kings. They have just the 8th-best odds to make the NBA playoffs in the East.

Their schedule is going to be extremely tough across the next week. After the Grizzlies come to town, New York begins a five-game road trip, with matchups against the Lakers, Jazz, Nuggets, and Warriors. Daunting.

Tom Thibodeau’s team was led by two unlikely catalysts vs Sacramento, with backup guard Alec Burks pouring in a game-high 21 points off the bench, while Evan Fournier also notched 18.

It was a rather silent performance from Julius Randle and RJ Barrett, but it was promising to see others stepping up to the plate. On the night, six different players finished in double-digits.

New York had a firm stranglehold on this contest, leading by as many as 29 in the fourth quarter. The most they trailed by was three points. The Knicks will need to carry the momentum into Wednesday against a much more difficult opponent.

Randle and Barrett must rise to the occasion as well on both ends or else the red-hot Grizz are just going to roll over their subpar defense.

Grizzlies vs Knicks Prediction

I have zero belief in the Knicks to show up and deliver in back-to-back games and the Grizzlies will be motivated to get back to their winning ways here.

Memphis is just frankly a better team than New York and it will show on Wednesday. Despite Memphis being a very publicly bet side, they’ll comfortably cover the spread.

Pick: Grizzlies -2 (-112)
