For the second time in the last week, the New York Knicks (30-26, 16-11 away) and Philadelphia 76ers (34-19, 20-8 home) will meet on Friday evening in the City of Brotherly Love. The tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM ET at the Wells Fargo Center. Keep reading for the Knicks vs 76ers prediction.

New York is coming off a 102-98 win over the Orlando Magic on Tuesday, their second victory in a row. The Sixers on other hand have lost two straight, falling to the Boston Celtics on Wednesday, even with Jaylen Brown getting hurt and Jayson Tatum scoring just 12 points.

New York did get the better of Philly last Sunday though at Madison Square Garden, beating them 108-97. In fact, they’ve won two of the previous three meetings in 2022-23.

Knicks in the Mix

The East is wide open from fourth place to seventh, where the Knicks currently sit with a 30-27 record. They’re just half a game out of the final playoff berth in the East and definitely look like a team who will make the play-in at the very least. New York’s defense might not be great, but the squad ranks sixth in offensive rating, with Julius Randle, Jalen Brunson, and RJ Barrett all averaging over 20 points.

Plus, the Knicks added a solid piece at the trade deadline, acquiring Brunson’s former Villanova teammate Josh Hart from the Portland Trail Blazers. Another depth player for the backcourt that can take some of the load off Brunson, who was once again the leading catalyst in Orlando.

The PG dropped 25 points and dished out five dimes, while Randle also posted an impressive stat line of 22 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists. Brunson hit what would be the go-ahead basket with just over a minute left to seal the deal for NY. Tom Thibodeau’s squad outscored the young Magic 36-29 in the final period. Between the Knicks’ recent success against Philly and their 16-11 away record, there will be no shortage of confidence heading into Wells Fargo.

Sixers Need to Respond

For a team with a top-10 offense, the 76ers are cold right now. They’ve been held to under 100 points in back-to-back contests by the Knicks and Celtics. While Philadelphia is still 7-3 in their last 10 games, they need a bounce-back performance at home Thursday.

To be frank, there is no way Doc Rivers’ group should’ve lost to Boston Wednesday, who lost Brown to a facial injury, didn’t have Marcus Smart, Robert Williams, or Al Horford, and had Tatum stinking up the joint. But, the full-strength Sixers were putrid and somehow failed to come out with a win.

It wasn’t necessarily a sloppy game or anything. Philly just simply had no scoring production outside of the star duo of Joel Embiid and James Harden, who combined for 54 points. To put it into perspective, the bench contributed a mere 21 points. Shooting 32% from deep didn’t help, either.

Knicks vs 76ers Prediction

The Knicks are 3-1 ATS in their last four. Considering how Philly’s roster outside of Embiid and Harden are playing at the moment, that’s enough for me to take New York.

Pick: Knicks +5.5 (-110)
