  • The Los Angeles Lakers travel to the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia for a battle with the Hawks at 7:30 PM EST on Monday, Feb 1st
  • The Lakers could choose to rest some starters as this is the last of seven straight road games
  • See the player props available below

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers will take on Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks for the first time this season. The Hawks are flying high after Young’s 41 point outburst against the Washington Wizards in their last game.

James and the Lakers ended a two-game skid on Saturday night by beating the Celtics in Boston, 96-95. James is listed as questionable for tonight’s game, although he has been listed as such in almost every game this season but has yet to miss any time.

The Lakers have dominated this series recently, winning six of the last seven games including a 101-96 win the last time these teams met back on December 15th, 2019. In this matchup, the Lakers are favored by six points and there are plenty of player props to consider.

Since LeBron James’ status is still unknown, we will look at the Hawks’ side of things.

Don’t Sleep on Clint Capela

One prop for tonight that jumps off the page is Clint Capela’s point total at 13.5. The big-man has failed to go over that number in his last four games landing on 13 points exactly in three of the four contests. Despite the struggles, there is reason to believe that he could climb over that number tonight.

One area the Lakers have trouble defending is in the paint. In fact, only four teams allow opponents to score more points in the paint than Los Angeles. Over their last four games, they have allowed Daniel Theis, Mason Plumlee, Joel Embiid and Andre Drummond to all go over 13.5 points.

One reason for this could be the fact that the Lakers’ perimeter defense is one of the best in the NBA. Only two teams in the association hold opponents to a worse three-point percentage than the Lakers at 34.1%. It’s safe to assume this is the reason Los Angeles sees the NBA’s third fewest three-point attempts from opponents.

If the Hawks tone down the three-point attempts tonight, Capela would be the obvious candidate to benefit. He’s averaging almost 30 minutes per game and a whopping 85.8% of his points come from inside the painted area. On top of that, he could see a few more shot attempts tonight with De’Andre Hunter out with a knee injury.

The Pick: Clint Capela Over 13.5 Points (-106)

Clint Can Rebound Too

The Lakers are a decent rebounding team as they come in the top ten in the NBA in opponent defensive rebounding percentage at 76.2 percent. They are actually number one in the NBA at keeping opponents off the offensive glass holding their enemies to a 19.6% rate. Still, we have seen big games from good rebounders such as Andre Drummond’s 25-17 game last Monday.

Drummond is an elite center, but Capela profiles the same and is not much further behind in terms of rebound production. According to NBA.com, Capela is fourth in the league in estimated rebound rate at 24.5%. The only player ahead of him that plays the same amount of minutes is Drummond at 28.6%. Capela could have a productive night on the boards at a discounted price.

The Pick: Clint Capela Over 26.5 Points + Rebounds (-113)
