Entering play on Wednesday night, there had been six instances where the home team had dropped Game 1 of their playoff series so far this year. In all six instances, the home team rebounded in Game 2.

Golden State will be looking to continue that trend on Thursday, as they host LA for Game 2 of the West Semifinals. The Lakers took the series opener 117-112, but online sportsbooks are not expecting a repeat performance.

The Warriors have been pegged as the chalk in the NBA odds, and what’s interesting is that they’re laying more points to LA than in Game 1.

Los Angeles Lakers +5.5 (-110) +195 O 227.5 (-110)

Golden State is currently a 5.5 point favorite, in a contest with a total of 227.5. Tip-off is scheduled for 9 pm ET at the Chase Center in San Francisco, CA, with ESPN providing the broadcast coverage.

Los Angeles vs Golden State Betting Splits

It appears that big money bettors are hip to the aforementioned Game 2 trend. The Warriors are drawing 80% of the ATS money as of Wednesday night, off of just 51% of the spread tickets. That means those who bet the most, are primarily on Golden State.

Total wise, we have a similar scenario as Game 1. The majority of the over/under tickets (69%) are on the over, but the bulk of the handle (53%) is on the under. That situation favored the over bettors on Tuesday, as Game 1 exceeded the 228 point total by a single point.

Lakers vs Warriors Series Odds

Team Odds
Los Angeles Lakers -175
Golden State Warriors +145

As for the series odds market, the Lakers have gone from a +120 underdog to advance in the NBA playoff bracket to a -175 favorite. Golden State on the other hand, went from a -145 favorite to a +145 underdog.

LAL vs GS NBA Betting Trends

At that price there’s probably some value on the Warriors. Los Angeles was the more well rested team in Game 1, after knocking out Memphis four nights earlier. The Warriors meanwhile, played a Game 7 just two nights prior, and a letdown was predicted by many.

Golden State looked fatigued early on in Game 1, falling behind by as many as 14. They simply had no answer for Anthony Davis, who poured in 30 points and grabbed 23 rebounds. AD made nine of his first 10 shots from the field, which helped cover up LeBron James’ 9-of-24 effort.

James’ Round 1 shooting struggles carried over to the second round, but unlike previous years, he now has the supporting cast to bail him out. D’Angelo Russell and Dennis Schroder each had 19 points, while the team dominated the Dubs 54-28 in the paint.

As for the Warriors, they were able to stage a fourth quarter rally to tie the game, but after the Lakers went back up by three late, Jordan Poole’s potential game tying three from way outside wouldn’t drop.

Poole shook off a horrendous opening round to finish with 21 points, while Steph Curry and Klay Thompson scored 27 and 25 respectively. The Splash Bros combined for 12 triples, as Golden State buried 21 threes compared to only six by the Lakers.

The loss was their first in 14 instances where they made at least 15 more triples than their opponent. Curry dropped to 15-8 all-time in playoff matchups versus LeBron, in spite of James recording his third fewest points (23) in a postseason game versus the Warriors.

Lakers vs Warriors Predictions

LeBron’s three-point numbers have been absolutely atrocious in this year’s playoffs. After a 1-of-8 performance in Game 1, he’s shooting 18.4% from beyond the arc. The entire Los Angeles roster struggled from deep, and it’s hard to imagine them continuing to keep pace offensively with Golden State if that continues.

The Warriors meanwhile, were incredibly efficient from outside, but it was their inside game that was troubling. They shot only 41% from inside the arc, and as mentioned produced just 28 points in the paint. AD deserves a ton of credit for that, as he added four more blocks to his playoff resume.

Davis now has 30 blocks in six postseason games, and is likely to continue his dominance in Game 2. That will help keep the Warriors offense one dimensional, while the inefficiency of LeBron and the rest of the Lakers from deep should preserve a low scoring contest.

Picks:

  • Under 227.5 (-110)
  • Anthony Davis Over 3.5 Blocks (+140)
  • LeBron James Under 2.5 Threes (-155)
