  • There are two fascinating games on the NBA schedule for March 10th
  • James Harden faces the Brooklyn Nets for the first time since his trade at the deadline
  • MVP candidate Nikola Jokic leads the Denver Nuggets against the slumping Warriors

If we’ve only got two games on an NBA regular season night, they better be good ones. Thursday, March 10th lives up to those expectations.

Ben Simmons will be on the bench in Philadelphia. James Harden takes on a Brooklyn Nets team he forced his way out of just weeks ago. The Sixers’ unbeaten start with Harden and Joel Embiid together is at risk against Brooklyn on the back of a 50-point gem from Kyrie Irving, though the Sixers are 4.5-point favorites for the game at Wells Fargo Center.

Golden State is on a 3-9 run. Draymond Green is out until next week, and they have dropped to third in the Western Conference. Steve Kerr’s team are still narrowly favored over the Nuggets, however, who are on the second night of a back-to-back and have won four in a row.

Klay’s Struggles Continue

Klay Thompson has passed this points line just three times in his last eight outings. He’s averaging under 17 points per game for the season, and shooting under 37% from three. While a period of adjustment was inevitable after such a lengthy layoff, Thompson has looked sluggish at points recently. He’s missing Draymond Green as much as anyone.

Denver doesn’t exactly have a reputation as being a lockdown team on defense, and they’re on the second night of a back-to-back. Still, this defense has been hustling of late, resulting in the fourth-best rating over the last 10 games.

Michael Malone’s team generally do a good job at limiting opponent perimeter shots, ranking in the top 10 in total threes conceded and opponent three-point percentage. Thompson has gone five for 22 from beyond the arc over his last three games.

Backing the under is the best way to go here – the Nuggets should make it difficult enough for Thompson that fatigue could become an issue.

  • Pick: Klay Thompson under 17.5 points (-108)

Keep Rolling With Maxey

Tyrese Maxey has scored 28, 21, 25, 33 and 17 in games with James Harden. He’s 16 for 25 from downtown in that period. The second-year guard was already having a great year, but he has been particularly special as the third option alongside Harden and Joel Embiid.

He’s been comfortable shooting off the catch, a crucial element of the Sixers’ offense with opposing defenses so focused on Harden and Embiid. He also possesses the quick-footedness and handle to attack closeouts and we’ve throughout this season that he can run the offense when required.

Brooklyn remains one of the worst defenses in the league, and their backcourt rotation is vulnerable on the defensive end. There are also plenty of lumbering frontcourt players that Maxey can go at in mismatches.

Averaging north of 22 per game across the last seven and shooting over 55% from three, the Dallas native should enjoy another productive night against a Nets defense which will be forced to throw bodies at Harden and Embiid.

  • Pick: Tyrese Maxey over 17.5 points (-114)
