With a 116-104 victory over the Mavericks on Wednesday night, the Jazz covered the two-point spread, extended their winning streak to 10 games, and lifted their record to an NBA-best 14-4. Utah has also been a winner against the spread in all 10 games.

The Mavericks (8-10) have lost three straight games both straight-up and ATS and are the underdogs in this one.

Utah Shows Off Depth

The Jazz led Wednesday’s game from start to finish even though it was without leading scorer Donovan Mitchell, who was in the NBA’s concussion protocol.

Rudy Gobert led the Jazz with 29 points and 20 rebounds, both season highs, and it was his highest-scoring game since 2017. Gobert also had three blocked shots and three steals.

Jordan Clarkson reached a season high with 31 points off the bench. Joe Ingles scored 21 points, a season high as well, while starting in place of Mitchell, who is averaging 23.4 points a game.

Clarkson logged 32 minutes while Ingles’ points came on seven 3-pointers, which tied a career high and was one off the franchise record. Ingles added eight assists.

Mike Conley played his usual solid game with 17 points and six assists.

Utah shot 53.7% and made 14 3-pointers through the first three quarters as it built a 100-78 lead. The Mavericks never got closer than 12 points in the fourth period.

The Jazz have trailed for just 57 seconds in the fourth quarter during the winning streak and their average margin of victory has been 15.3 points.

The Jazz list Mitchell as questionable for Friday along with Derrick Favors, their top big man off the bench. Favors also sat out Monday because of lower back soreness.

Mavericks “Not Ourselves”

The Mavericks are on their second three-game losing streak in two weeks. They also dropped three in a row from Jan. 15-18th.

Luka Doncic had 30 points Wednesday night, but it was not nearly enough for the Mavericks. Tim Hardaway Jr. added 19, including the 1,000th 3-pointer of his career, and Kristaps Porzingis finished with 18 points.

Doncic continued a fine season in which he is averaging 27.4 points, 9.7 assists and 9.4 rebounds a game. Even if the NBA does not play an actual All-Star Star, he should be selected to a virtual one.

However, the Mavericks were out-rebounded 50-35 and shot just 34.3% from 3-point range, making 12 of 35 attempts.

That led Doncic to tell reporters after the game that the Mavericks are “just not ourselves right now.”

A bit of good news is that Dorian Finney-Smith, Josh Richardson and Dwight Powell all returned after sitting out because of COVID-19 protocols. Richardson scored six points in 24 minutes, Finney-Smith also logged 24 minutes and had three while Powell failed to score while playing 13 minutes.

Finney-Smith and Richardson had missed the previous nine games and Powell sat out eight games.

Maxi Kleber is now the lone Mavericks players still sidelined because of the NBA’s health and safety protocols.

The Jazz has won four of its last five games against Dallas and nine of the last 11. While it is a tall order to beat the talented Mavericks twice in three days, Utah is on fire right now and Dallas is not.

Pick: Jazz -3.5 (-110)
