Mavericks vs Suns Preview

Dallas will be feeling very confident heading into the upcoming campaign after making a heroic run all the way to the conference finals. However, they did lose a crucial piece of their squad in Jalen Brunson, who left to sign a big-money deal with the New York Knicks. On a more positive note, Mark Cuban and the front office managed to trade for big man Christian Wood, bring in veteran JaVale McGee, and will get SG Tim Hardaway Jr back from injury.

While Luka is obviously the X-factor for Dallas, the rest of the rotation needs to step up without Brunson. Spencer Dinwiddie must be a lot more consistent and he’ll have every chance to do so now. As for this season opener, the Mavs are going to be coming into this contest with their heads held high after embarrassing Phoenix in this same building not long ago. If they can play stout defense, a victory is very much possible. Dallas won just 37.5% of their 32 games as underdogs last year, though.

The Suns finished as the top seed in the West in 2021-22 but of course, lost to the Mavs in the second round of the postseason. Their roster looks relatively the same this time around after extending RFA Deandre Ayton, matching the Indiana Pacers’ offer. Phoenix definitely has something to prove after winning 64 games a season ago.

The Suns were just as good at home as opposed to on the road last campaign, going 32-9. Monty Williams’ group also went 57-13 in contests where they were favored on the moneyline. That’s definitely a promising sign ahead of Tuesday’s matchup. The Suns ranked top-10 in points scored and fewest points allowed in 2021-22, too.

Mavericks vs Suns Prediction

Phoenix doesn’t want to look at this contest as a revenge game. But, let’s be honest. There’s a chip on their shoulder to ball out here and make a statement. At home, I expect the Suns to make it happen, with Devin Booker and Chris Paul leading the charge. Take the home team to cover the spread and start the campaign off on the right foot.

Pick: Suns -4 (-110)
