  • The Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers matchup on Wednesday April 14th
  • Brooklyn is without James Harden (hamstring) and it’s unclear if Kyrie Irving will be available
  • Which Nets vs Sixers player props represent the best value?

As the two top teams in the Eastern Conference meet on Wednesday, the Philadelphia 76ers are favored by around six points. Philly is at full strength for this game. Brooklyn is on the second night of a back-to-back after Tuesday’s win against the Timberwolves, and it’s uncertain which of their stars (if any) will be available.

Kevin Durant starred in the win over Minnesota. Being carefully managed after injury, though, the former MVP might be rested or on a tight minutes restriction. Kyrie Irving missed Tuesday’s game for personal reasons.

James Harden (hamstring) is unavailable. Backup point guard Chris Chiozza left the previous game with a hand injury, which makes him questionable.

Odds as of Apr 14th

Unguardable Embiid

Joel Embiid absolutely battered the Dallas Mavericks. It was a complete MVP-level performance, getting all of the Mavericks’ bigs in foul trouble. There were fade-aways, dunks and spin moves. This version of Embiid is a problem for any team, and defenses are left with no option but to aggressively double.

Brooklyn has reinforced its front court. Their options for Embiid are still limited, however. Nic Claxton is the best defender of the group, but for all his athleticism, coping with the sheer size and strength of Embiid on the block could be problematic.

If available, LaMarcus Aldridge will get bullied. Blake Griffin will suffer the same fate Maxi Kleber did. DeAndre Jordan, the best matchup by size, was a DNP for the last five games before getting 21 minutes against Minnesota.

Embiid scored 36 in 25 minutes against Dallas. He went to the line 15 times. Few, if any, defenders in the Association can guard the Cameroonian one-on-one. Brooklyn will have no choice but to send help and a lot of it or Embiid will put up another massive night.

While averaging just two assists per game since his return from injury, the Nets’ defensive vulnerability against him could result in a high-assist game. Prior to his knee injury, Embiid had five straight games with three or more assists. There’s no question he’s improved at reading double teams, and he’s likely to see a lot of them on Wednesday. Embiid hitting the over on 2.5 assists represents great value.

  • Pick: Embiid over 2.5 assists (-144)

Harris Stays Aggressive

Tobias Harris scored 21 points on 16 shots when these teams met in February. There have been changes to Brooklyn’s roster since then, of course, but Harris is often the beneficiary of opponents helping on Embiid. The former Clipper has improved as a cutter, and he’s above 40% from three for the season.

Brooklyn has got bigger. There will still be small line-ups put out on Wednesday, though, and this gives Harris an opportunity to resort to some bully ball. Switch a smaller defender onto Harris and he will back them down. This has contributed to a career-high in assists per game at 3.6.

Doc Rivers has once again brought the best out of Harris. He’s having a career-year across the board. He’s playing a more active role in the offense, handling in pick-and-roll, attacking switches and doing a bit of playmaking.

In his last 10 games where he has played 30 or more minutes, Harris has recorded 23 or more points and assists on eight occasions. This matchup with Brooklyn should be relatively competitive even with the Nets missing stars, and there will be opportunity aplenty for Harris to attack. He might even get some easy points off Embiid doubles.

  • Pick: Harris over 22.5 points and assists (-111)
