With Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving out, the Brooklyn Nets are 6.5-point underdogs for their Wednesday meeting with the Utah Jazz. Brooklyn is coming off a tense win over Portland, while the Jazz had Tuesday night off after blowing out the Chicago Bulls on Monday.

James Harden has been carrying the Nets of late. Brooklyn is also getting great production from up and down the roster, including some good minutes from Blake Griffin on Tuesday.

Conley From Deep

Mike Conley’s 2.5 threes made line seems fair. He’s averaging 2.8 makes from deep per game for the season, but there’s reason to like the over here. The Nets, even with their defensive improvement, are below-average on that end of the floor. Still down in 18th in defensive rating over their last 10 and 20th over their last five, Brooklyn is not a great defensive team.

Opponents are also shooting over 37% on above the break threes against the Nets, which ranks in the bottom ten in the league. Conley is in the 86th percentile on such shots. Almost 40% of his shots are non-corner threes, per Cleaning The Glass, and half of his total field goal attempts are from three. The former Memphis guard is taking a career-high in three-point attempts and shooting them at the best percentage of his career.

Conley has made three or more threes in five of his last six games. Utah has only gone 5-5 over their previous ten, but the offense keeps putting up points. While the defense has waned, they remain sixth in offensive rating over the period. Whether creating for himself or taking catch and shoot opportunities as the Jazz ping the ball around the court, Conley is going to get plenty of good looks on Wednesday night.

Making over 2.5 threes is as safe a bet as there is in Nets vs Jazz player props. Don’t let the one-for-six from deep against Toronto put you off – Conley could do this in the first half.

  • Pick: Mike Conley over 2.5 threes (-104)

Mitchell Creates & Scores as Well

A glance at Donovan Mitchell’s season averages makes the 33.5 points and assists total seem high. Mitchell’s combined points and assists averages for 2020-21 take us to just under 31. His numbers have improved throughout the campaign, however. In March, the All-Star guard is up to 6.1 assists per contest and 28.8 points.

Tweak that to the six games since the break, and Mitchell’s scoring is 29.3 with 5.8 dimes. The usage rate has improved by a couple of percent since January, but the assist rate has soared by six percent.

Mitchell’s workload has increased too, averaging three more minutes per game in March than he did in January. This is largely due to the Jazz suddenly playing competitive games. All the blowouts earlier in the season resulted in a lot of time on the bench late in games. A blowout is very unlikely against these Nets even without Durant and Irving – Brooklyn’s last six games have all finished within 10 points.

The former Rookie of the Year runner-up has gone over this points and assists total in four of six since the All-Star break, including each of the last three. With Brooklyn’s defensive effort potentially impacted by a challenging game with Portland last night, Mitchell should have opportunities aplenty to put numbers.

  • Pick: Donovan Mitchell over 33.5 points and assists (-108)
