There are published reports that Wade has been approached to work as a TV analyst on broadcasts of NBA games by both TNT and ESPN.

Wading into the Future

Wade doesn’t sound like a guy who intends to remain in the spotlight now that his 16-season NBA career is at an end.

In an interview with ESPN, Wade, 37, indicated he planned to move to Los Angeles to be closer to his wife, actress Gabrielle Union. Wade also suggested he planned to go into therapy to help him with the transition to life after the NBA and to try to avoid some of the emotional and financial pitfalls that often impact pro athletes when they step away from the game.

“I need somebody to talk to about it because it’s a big change and I have a long life to live and there’s other great things I can accomplish,” Wade told ESPN. “I have no idea what it is yet that I want to do. But, I want to do a little bit of everything.

“I want to see what I can be great at. I’m so used to being great at something.”

Wade and Union’s daughter, Kaavia James, was born November 7th, so it would appear that parenting will be a priority for him.

Is TV Dwyane’s Destiny?

It’s understandable why it would seem a natural for Wade to go into broadcasting. It’s been a welcome second career for NBA stars of his caliber like Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley, whose larger-than-life personalities translate well to television.

Wade has the resume and the basketball IQ to be a good fit as a TV analyst.

With his accomplishments on the hardwood, which include three NBA titles and 13 All-Star selections, Wade definitely owns the resume and the basketball IQ to be a good fit as a TV analyst.

Wade has worked on ABC/ESPN broadcasts in the past. However, he seems set on stepping away from the spotlight, being a dad and a husband, and making the transition to life after basketball as smoothly as possible.

The broadcast booth might be in Wade’s future, but it doesn’t appear to be in his immediate future.

Not a TV analyst looks to be the wise player here.
