It’s early, but it’s ugly in Brooklyn.

The Nets got blasted by the Indiana Pacers Saturday night, sending them to their fourth straight loss and a 1-5 start in the young season.

They’ll get a chance to avenge that loss to this same Pacers squad at home, the second of a 2-game mini set in Brooklyn.

Indiana will try to pull to .500 on the year and finish off a 5-game road trip with their third straight win.

It all gets underway Monday (October 31) at 7:30pm ET from Barclays Center, in a game that can be seen live on NBA TV.

Indiana Betting Analysis

Even without starting big man Myles Turner, the Pacers laid the wood to the Nets Friday night.

Rookie Bennedict Mathurin was exceptional, pumping in a career-best 32 points off the bench. Mathurin set a franchise record for points by a rookie reserve, going 8-for-16 from the field, including a 6-for-9 night from 3-point range. He also hit all 10 of his free throws.

Tyrese Haliburton added 26 points, matching Mathurin’s 6-for-9 mark from distance, with eight assists, six rebounds, and three steals. Buddy Hield chipped in with 17 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists while going 5-for-11 from 3-point range.

As a team, Indy drilled a franchise record 23 3-pointers on a sparkling 50% clip.

The Pacers enjoyed a major advantage on the glass, outrebounding the Nets 53-34, while piling up 17 offensive rebounds, allowing them to attempt 12 more field goals in the game.<

Brooklyn Betting Analysis

The Nets held a team meeting after another loss that sent them to 14th in the East, where they are tied with the Orlando Magic with one win on the year.

Orlando’s supposed to be there: they’re coming off a year where they had the no. 1 pick in the draft and are in rebuild more. Brooklyn, on the other hand, features Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, two of 11 NBA players currently averaging 30 or more points per game.

Brooklyn is looking for some additional support to the stars. In their loss to the Pacers, Irving had a game-high 35, while Durant chipped in with 26, but no on else was able to post better than 11 points.

It was a rough night for Seth Curry’s season debut, going scoreless with an 0-for-5 shooting night.

Of course, Kyrie being Kyrie, the conversation post game wasn’t about the game, but about a recent tweet Irving posted, featuring a film with anti-Semitic tropes.

Defensively, the Nets are a mess, ranking second-last in points allowed at 122.2 points per game, while letting teams shoot at a 43.8% clip from distance, the worst mark in the league.

Brooklyn also has the NBA’s worst rebounding percentage (45.2%), second-worst defensive rating (121.6) and third-worst net rating (minus-8.6).

Pacers vs Nets Prediction

Brooklyn’s Ben Simmons doesn’t look like he’s anything close to the form that made him a 2-time all-star. In six games, he’s averaging 5.7 field goal attempts per game, putting up 6.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and 7.2 assists on the year. He’s yet to score in double digits.

On the year, the Nets are 1-5 against the spread, which is the third-worst mark in the league. Indiana is 3-4 ATS.

Brooklyn needs to tighten up on the defensive end. During their slide, the fewest points they’ve allowed in a game is 110, while averaging 124.5 points against.

Brooklyn should eventually get it together, but for right now, they probably aren’t 8-point favorites over anyone. Even if they win, Indiana should keep things close enough, with all those points.

Pick:

  • Pacers +8 (-110); 1 unit to win 0.91 units
  • NBA Betting Record: 3-3 ATS, 1-0 ML, +0.21 units
