  • Wednesday night is a busy one across the NBA even with surging Covid cases
  • Trae Young and Kyle Lowry are just two of the All-Stars in action
  • Read below for the latest player props and best bets

Injuries and Covid are ravaging the NBA right now. We’ve seen our first Covid cancellations of the season, but the schedule on Wednesday night is still absolutely packed with games. While there are still plenty of player props to choose from on December, 15th, the bookies are holding fire on numerous markets as they await availability news.

This leaves some games without prop odds at all and others limited to just a few players. We are covered for the Hawks and Magic matchup, though, which Atlanta is favored in. The same goes for the Pelicans and Thunder in Oklahoma City, and the Nuggets and Timberwolves in Denver.

Odds as of Dec 15 at FanDuel

Cole Anthony Keeps Scoring

Since returning from a six-game absence, Cole Anthony has scored 21 or more points in five of his six outings. In 15 games registering 16 or more field goal attempts, Anthony has scored 21 or more on 12 occasions. He’s got the green light in this Magic offense, a factor that is only exaggerated with Markelle Fultz, Jalen Suggs, E’Twaun Moore and Michael Carter-Williams still sidelined for Wednesday’s matchup with Atlanta.

Anthony’s season usage rate of 27.2% edges up over 29% in minutes without Suggs. He’s taking on a Hawks team that has dropped off defensively this year, ranking 25th in Cleaning The Glass’ defensive rating.

Atlanta remains without De’Andre Hunter and Bogdan Bogdanovic, two rangy wings who could have been put on Anthony. They have just given up 132 points to the Houston Rockets with Eric Gordon dropping 32. Perimeter defense is a problem.

Even though he’s improved his efficiency massively this year, that’s not a factor to worry about here. Someone has to take shots for the Magic. Anthony is more than happy to do that – his numbers of late and production for the season suggest he should make it into the twenties in scoring once again.

  • Pick: Cole Anthony over 20.5 points (-116)

Kyle Lowry Carries the Offense

Kyle Lowry has put the Heat on his back of late. Miami is without Bam Adebayo, Jimmy Butler, Markieff Morris and Caleb Martin for their trip to Philadelphia. Tyler Herro is questionable.

Not only desperate to put on a show on his return to the City of Brotherly Love, Lowry is in line for another heavy workload. He has played 37 or more minutes in four of the last six. The only times he played fewer was in the blowout win over Chicago and blowout loss to Milwaukee.

Lowry has gone over 25.5 points and assists in four of his last six. One of the times he fell short, he reached 25.

The Heat have got useful production from depth pieces on their roster, but missing so many key rotation players has put an enormous burden on Lowry to not only be the point guard, but to up his scoring. Of his four games with over 14 field goal attempts this season, three have come in the last six.

Miami faces a Sixers team that has a reputation for defense, but that’s an inaccurate assumption this year. Ben Simmons’ absence has had an impact, of course, leaving Philly in the bottom 10 defensively over the last five games. Joel Embiid is doubtful for Wednesday’s game too, and the Sixers’ defensive rating in non-Embiid minutes would rank bottom five for the season.

Lowry reaches this number if the game is close enough for him to play 35+ minutes. Even with so many players missing, the Heat have been able to stay competitive, and that trend should continue here regardless of Embiid’s status.

  • Pick: Kyle Lowry over 25.5 points & assists (-111)
