Pick #1: Bucks vs Bulls

Milwaukee is officially back from Abu Dhabi and will visit the Bulls here. Surprisingly, the Bucks are 0-3 in the preseason so far and lost back-to-back games to the Atlanta Hawks overseas. However, Giannis Antetokounmpo didn’t play in the latter due to rest.

It’s also important to note that Khris Middleton is still recovering from injury and isn’t expected to return until the campaign begins. These are tune-up games but Milwaukee was sloppy with the rock on Saturday, committing 22 turnovers which resulted in 30 points for Atlanta. Between that and Trae Young going off for 31 in the first half, they had no chance.

After an opening loss to the Pelicans, the Bulls have won two in a row, both in blowout fashion against the Nuggets and Raptors. The victory over Toronto ended 115-98 on the road, with none other than DeMar DeRozan leading the charge. The five-time All-Star had a deep bag, posting 21 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists.

Ayo Dosunmu, who is expected to start in place of the injured Lonzo Ball, also dropped 14 while grabbing seven boards and dishing out five dimes. All around, it was a great performance from the rotation.

I like how Chicago is playing right now. While they don’t typically do well against the Bucks, the Bulls are worth a bet here in the NBA preseason picks.

Pick: Bulls -3.5 (-110)

Pick #2: Trail Blazers vs Warriors

The Blazers hit the road looking to avenge a brutal loss to the Kings on Sunday. Damian Lillard and Co. were beaten 126-94 in Sacramento, getting outplayed in basically every way imaginable. The Kings outworked them on the boards, killed Portland on the fastbreak, and shot the lights out from deep.

It was a forgettable night for Dame too, collecting just eight points in 27 minutes. Jerami Grant, Anfernee Simons, and Jusuf Nurkic all finished in double-digits though, with Grant’s 17 points a team-high.

The Dubs lost their first game of the preseason on Sunday to the Los Angeles Lakers, who were winless until then. It was also the first contest without Draymond Green starting after his punching incident as Jonathan Kuminga stepped into his place. Jordan Poole flaunted his stuff in the loss, compiling an impressive stat line of 25 points, four rebounds, and six assists. Four of the Warriors’ starters poured in at least 12 points. Golden State is one of the favorites to win a title again in 2022-23, with NBA Championship odds of +700.

I don’t see Golden State losing to the Blazers, especially at home. They’ve also covered the spread in the last three meetings with Portland.

Pick: Warriors -6.5 (-110)
