It’s fitting the Clippers (2-4, 0-2 home) are playing on Halloween because they’ve been scary bad this season given the talent on their roster.

LA has dropped four straight and is fresh off getting blown out in their own building on Sunday by the Pelicans.

Now, they shift their focus to the lowly Rockets (1-5, 0-4 away) on Monday, one of the few teams in the West with a worse record.

Oddsmakers are expecting LA to snap its  losing streak, as the Clippers opened up as the home chalk in the NBA odds.

Los Angeles Clippers Betting Analysis

The big story in Clipper land is the continued absence of Kawhi Leonard. The two-time Finals MVP sat out his fourth game of the season on Sunday, and will miss Monday’s tilt as well. Leonard is still experiencing knee issues after tearing his ACL in the spring of 2021.

He missed the bulk of the playoffs that year and all of last season. So far in 2022, he’s played in just 33% of the Clippers games and the team is 1-3 without him.

LA remains a top contender in the NBA Championship odds, even though they’ve looked nothing like one. They’ve trailed by 22 or more points in three of their past four games, and have been atrocious on offense.

The Clippers have scored less than 100 points in half of their games so far, and managed just 91 points against New Orleans on Sunday. They rank 29th in offensive rating, 26th in three-point efficiency, and have shot under 35% in all four defeats.

In addition to Leonard’s absence, Paul George is operating at less than 100% as he deals with the aftermath of a non-COVID illness. PG-13 scored 40 against the Kings early in the season, but is averaging only 13.7 points and 31% from the field in his other four starts.

John Wall on the other hand, is on a minutes restriction, while Marcus Morris just returned from a two-game absence due to personal reasons.

Defensively, they’ve somehow held it together, and it’s been the only saving grace for them so far. LA entered play on Sunday ranked sixth in points against, third in enemy field goal percentage, and fourth in opponent three-point efficiency.

Houston Rockets Betting Analysis

Houston meanwhile, entered play on Sunday losers of four of five. They’re winless in four road tilts and were fresh off back-to-back losses in Portland and Utah. Only the Pistons have a worse point differential than the Rockets, while Houston ranks in the bottom-seven in both offensive and defensive rating.

The Rockets struggles should not come as a surprise. They were picked to finish among the bottom-seven teams in the league, and feature the NBA’s second youngest roster.

Jalen Green looks like a budding superstar, and along with Kevin Porter Jr. give Houston a formidable backcourt.

Forward Jabari Smith Jr. was the third overall pick this past June, while center Alperen Sengun was a first round pick last year. There’s no denying they’re talented, the problem is they are sloppy. The Rockets commit turnovers at the seventh highest rate, and shoot the league’s second lowest field goal percentage.

They don’t distribute well, ranking third worst in total assists, and they defend poorly. Houston is allowing opponents to shot 49% from the field and 38% from three.

On the injury front, veteran guard Eric Gordon will miss his second straight game, while backup big man Bruno Fernando is also out.

Rockets vs Clippers Prediction

We successfully backed the under in LA’s contest on Sunday, and we’re going right back to the well here. The under has hit in five of the Clippers first six games, and their offensive struggles and sound defense make it an appealing target again.

The Rockets will surely concede their share of points, but it’s fair to doubt their ability to put up a big total on  their own. They’re extremely inexperienced, and that will likely come back to haunt them against a veteran laden LA team.

Pick: Under 224 (-110)
