  • Orlando is giving 4.5 points to Houston in the Rockets vs Magic odds on Monday, November 7
  • The Rockets have dropped six straight and nine of their first 10 games
  • Keep reading for the complete Rockets vs Magic odds, plus injury news and a betting prediction

Monday’s Houston (1-9, 0-7 away) versus Orlando (2-8, 2-2 home) contest will mark the first opportunity that Jabari Smith Jr. and Paolo Banchero will go head-to-head as pros. The Magic passed on Smith Jr. in this past year’s draft with the number two selection, electing to go with Banchero instead. At the moment, that move looks like a slam dunk.

Banchero leads all rookies in scoring and is the current favorite in the NBA ROY odds. His Magic have earned the respect of online sportsbooks, at least for this contest, in the NBA odds as they’ve been pegged as the home chalk.

Orlando Magic Betting Analysis

After a huge upset victory over the Warriors, the Magic were on the cusp of another victory on Saturday versus the Kings. They held a 20-point lead in the third quarter, but ultimately couldn’t hold off a charging Sacramento. The Kings forced overtime and then with the game tied at 123 in the extra frame, De’Aaron Fox buried a 31-foot buzzer beater to hand Orlando its eighth loss of the season.

The Magic wasted a brilliant performance from Banchero, who poured in 33 points and grabbed 16 boards. In the process, he joined LeBron James as the only teenagers to ever have a 30/15 game. Franz Wagner splashed 31 points and dished out six assists, while Bol Bol finished with 23 points.

Orlando shot 54% from the field, despite making only 4-of-23 triples. They dominated down low, out rebounding the Kings by 12 and outscoring them 78-60 in the paint. The Magic rank top-eight in the league in points in the paint and have a significant advantage down low in this matchup against Houston. The Rockets rank bottom-five at defending the paint, and yield 11 offensive rebounds per game.

After a slow start offensively, Orlando has cranked up its efficiency recently. They’re averaging 120 points per contest over their last three, although they’ve been coughing up even more points. The Magic rank below league average in scoring defense, and have surrendered an average of 124 points per night over their past three games.

Houston Rockets Betting Analysis

Houston meanwhile, was projected to be among the worst teams in the NBA this season and they have not disappointed. The Rockets have lost six straight, and nine of 10 to start the season. Last time out, they fell 129-117 to Minnesota, falling behind by double-digits for the ninth time in 10 outings, and were never able to recover.

Jalen Green led the offense with 21, while Alperen Sengun had 17 points. The Rockets shot the ball well, knocking down 48% of their looks and 42% of their threes, but delivered a truly horrific performance in their own end. They yielded a 61% field goal percentage to the T-Wolves, and allowed them to make 46% of their threes.

The Rockets were outrebounded, and finished with 11 less assists, while committing 23 turnovers. They were also punished 60-46 in the paint, which is concerning with Orlando on deck.

Smith Jr. sat out Saturday’s loss with an illness, but is expected to play Monday versus the Magic. Jae’Sean Tate (ankle) has already been ruled out, while TyTy Washington (knee) is questionable.

Houston is full of young talent, but they are extremely undisciplined. Only two teams average more turnovers than the Rockets, while the team ranks last in field goal percentage and second last in assist rate.

Defensively, they’re bottom-six in points allowed and 29th in enemy field goal percentage. Not surprisingly, overs are a popular bet for their contests because they literally can’t stop anyone.

Rockets vs Magic Prediction

Houston has surrendered 124+ points in three of their past five outings, and in five of their 10 games overall. As for Orlando, high scoring games have been a common theme for them recently as well.

Each of the Magic’s last four games have cleared the total, going over by an average of 17 points per contest. This game’s total has already been bet up from 228.5 to 229.5 and the line movement may not be done yet.

Another reason to like the over is the pace at which both teams play at. Houston and Orlando each rank above league average in possessions per game, and over the past three contests only New Orleans averages more possessions than the Magic.

Pick: Over 229.5 (-110)
