The Miami Heat are battling for top spot in the East.

The Washington Wizards are battling to stay above the play-in fray.

Both will be battling losses due to COVID health and safety protocols when the two teams clash Tuesday night.

The Heat are riding a three-game win streak, while the Wizards have won just three times in their last 11 games after an impressive start to the campaign.

Oddsmakers are siding with the home team, pegging Miami as 6-point favorites.

The game tips off at 7:30pm ET from FTX Arena, and can be seen live on NBA TV.

Heat Outlook

Miami welcomed Jimmy Butler back to the lineup last time out in a 93-83 win over the Orlando Magic. Butler, the team’s leading scorer, had missed 12 of the previous 13 games with a tailbone injury. He had 17 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals in the win.

Caleb Martin, who also returned after a stint on the COVID list, matched Butler for the team high in scoring with 17 points to go along with five rebounds.

Absent from the lineup was point guard Kyle Lowry, who landed on the list just prior to Sunday’s game. Their prized offseason pickup is averaging 13.9 points and his 8.2 assists per game rank fifth in the NBA.

The Heat will also be without Markieff Morris (neck) and big man Dewayne Dedmon (knee) Tuesday, while all-star Bam Adebayo remains out with a thumb injury. PJ Tucker is questionable against the Wizards with a leg injury.

No matter who’s out for Miami, they bring a reliable defense to the court that keeps them competitive in seemingly every game. Miami ranks sixth in defensive rating, and they hold teams to 103.1 points a game, which is third-best in the NBA.

At 21-13, Miami sits fourth in the East, though they’re currently just behind the Nets and Bucks in wins — both had 22 entering play Monday.

Wizards Outlook

Washington got hammered last time out, dealt a 117-96 defeat at the hands of the Philadelphia 76ers. They didn’t have an answer for big man Joel Embiid, who poured in a game-high 36 points and 13 rebounds.

Spencer Dinwiddie led the Wizards, potting 17 points to go along with six assists. Washington was down key components in this one, with all-star Bradley Beal and wing Kentavious Caldwell-Pope missing the game due to COVID health and safety protocols. Both will be out Tuesday against the Heat, as well as reserve guard Raul Neto.

Surprisingly, it was Washington’s first loss this season without Beal, falling to 4-1. Last year, they won just twice in 12 games without their best player. Dinwiddie has been offensive hub in his absence, averaging 24.4 points in the five games, nearly doubling his season average of 12.8 points.

Sunday marked the first of five straight games for the Wizards against East opponents currently in the top-8. After Miami, they’ll battle the Bulls, Cavaliers and Hornets.

Wizards vs Heat Pick

This will be the third meeting between the teams this season, with each team taking a win on their home court.

Miami is tied with the Bulls for the best home record in the East, both sitting at 11-4, while the Wizards are just 9-11 away from home.

The numbers get a little bit bleaker when it comes to FTX Arena, where they are just 1-5 in their last six visits. Miami, meanwhile, has reeled off five straight wins on their home court.

Washington is just 6-13-1 ATS on the year away from home, while the Heat are 9-6 ATS as the home team.

With Butler back, he’ll pair with Tyler Herro to give the Heat their top two scorers on the year. Coupled with their stout defense and a depleted Wizards backcourt, take the Heat to keep rolling at home.

The Pick: Heat -6 (-110)
