USC’s NCAA Tournament odds have improved to +5000 (from +6250) since the start of the season. Their Final Four odds, which had gotten as short as +900 earlier in the month, have faded to +1100 amid a middling 3-2 stretch.

USC Trojans Betting Analysis

The Trojans (16-2, 6-2 Pac-12) are fresh off a rare mountain sweep. They took down Colorado on the road on Thursday 61-58, and then followed that victory up with a 79-67 win at Utah two days later.

Drew Peterson led the way offensively versus the Utes, with a near perfect shooting performance. The senior knocked down nine of his 10 attempts, including all five three-pointers he took.

Boogie Ellis chipped in 18 points for USC, while the Trojans shot a blistering 50.9% from the field, and 45% from three. They outrebounded Utah 42-31, and punished the Utes down low. USC grabbed 12 offensive rebounds, which led to 15 second chance points, and outscored their opponent 40-20 in the paint.

At 16-2, USC is off to its best start since the 1970-71 campaign. They were ranked as high as number 5 in the nation earlier this season, but dipped down into the teens following losses to Oregon and Stanford.

Thanks to their latest two victories however, they are poised for a return back inside the top-10, assuming they take care of business against Arizona State.

USC grades significantly better than the Sun Devils on both offense and defense, ranking 71st in points per game, 36th in scoring defense, seventh in opponent effective field goal percentage, and sixth in total rebounding.

Arizona State Betting Analysis

The Trojans aren’t the only team to lose to Stanford recently, as the Cardinal took down Arizona State 79-76 on Saturday.  The Sun Devils (6-10, 2-4 Pac-12) erased a 15-point first half deficit, but committed a foul on a Brandon Angel three with 1.1 seconds remaining. Angel went on to make all three freebies, while Arizona State head coach Bobby Hurley and guard Jay Heath lost control.

Both verbally confronted an official who was exiting the court following the game, and have been suspended for Monday’s tilt with the Trojans.

The loss was the Sun Devils’ fourth in their past five outings, and it came in spite of some excellent shooting. Arizona State shot 52.5% from the field, which is significantly better than its season average. They also held Stanford to 38% from the field, but the strong defensive effort was wasted due to undisciplined play. The Sun Devils committed 16 turnovers, and sent the Cardinal to the free throw line 41 times.

For the season, Arizona State ranks 309th in points per game, and 329th in effective field goal percentage. Defensively, the numbers are better, but they are still incredibly vulnerable. They rank 133rd in scoring defense, 212th in defensive rebound percentage, and 214th versus the three.

Arizona State vs USC Pick

Not surprisingly, given their lack of offensive production on most nights, six of the Sun Devils’ past seven outings have come in under the total. The under is 12-4 overall in their 16 contests, including 4-2 in conference play.

The Trojans on the other hand, are typically a team to target overs against, providing the opponent can punch back. The over in their games has hit in six of their eight conference outings, but each of their opponents in those games were ranked higher offensively than Arizona State.

The Sun Devils are the lowest scoring team in the Pac-12 and should struggle against USC, the conference’s second stingiest defense.

Pick: Under 134.5 (-110)
