Baylor vs Kansas Betting Analysis

The Big 12 has established itself as the strongest conference in college hoops. Four Big 12 teams crack KenPom’s top-15 in overall efficiency, and five teams are among the top-21 shortest priced programs in the Final Four odds.

This matchup is massive in terms of the postseason, as the winner will move into first place in the conference with just four regular season games remaining. Top spot leads to the number one seed for the Big 12 Tournament and a better shot a #1 seed for March Madness, which tips off in less than a month.

Baylor and Kansas are literally mirror images of each other. They’re separated by just one loss in their overall records, and by only two points in terms of points per game. Their defenses have a points against average within a point of one another, and the same goes for their total rebounding stats.

Each team enters play riding a multi-game winning streak. The Bears have ripped off four straight wins, including three by double-digits. The Jayhawks on the other hand, have won three straight, including an eight point victory over the Longhorns.

These are also the last two National Champions. Kansas took took down UNC in the final last year, while two years ago it was Baylor cutting down the nets after upsetting previously undefeated Gonzaga to win it all.

The Bears are the nation’s most efficient offense, but are far less effective in their own end ranking 78th. The Jayhawks on the other hand are more balanced. They rank top-19 in both offensive and defensive efficiency, and are 12-1 at home this season.

Dominating at Allen Fieldhouse is nothing new to Kansas though. They haven’t lost multiple home games in a season since 2018, while they’re 231-13 at home over the last 15 years.

Baylor vs Kansas Predictions

Baylor on the other hand, hasn’t exactly excelled in a visitors role. They’re 4-3 away from home this season, and have won just once in 17 all-time meetings at Kansas.

The Jayhawks feature player of the year candidate Jalen Wilson, and plenty of key leftover pieces from last year’s title run. They also have the benefit of continuity. Kansas’ starting five has played together more than all but three other five-man units in the entire country.

Wilson, their home dominance, both in general and over the Bears, plus their familiarity with one another should be enough to entice bettors to roll with the home team.

Baylor vs Kansas Head-to-Head

Baylor Bears
VS
Kansas Jayhawks
9 Rank 5
20-6 Record 21-5
78.8 Points per Game 76.6
69.0 Points Against per Game 68.2
53.1% Effective FG% 42.9%
50.9% Opponent Effective FG% 47.1%
However, those who are still not convinced should consider this. Kansas has faced five ranked teams this season at Allen Fieldhouse and have beaten four of them. Only one of those victories was inside eight points, while two of the wins were by 18+ points.

Seven of the Jayhawks 12 home victories have come by double-figures, and they’ve outscored Baylor by 37 points in their past two meetings at Allen Fieldhouse.

The Bears are just 1-3 versus ranked opposition on the road this season, dropping two of those contests by 15 or more points.

Pick: Kansas Jayhawks -5 (-110)
