Osborne Shakes Off Sickness
Senior forward Malik Osborne had flu-like symptoms leading up to Florida State’s opener. However, he looked quite healthy as he had a team-high 18 points and a career-high 13 rebounds to lead the Seminoles over Penn.
It was the fourth career double-double for Osborne, who accomplished the feat in just 22 minutes. He was 4-for-6 from the floor and 9-of-12 from the free throw line.

Osborne averaged 5.9 points and 4.5 rebounds last season when Florida State went 18-7 and lost to Michigan in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament.
Anthony Polite added 17 points for Florida State and fellow senior guard Rayquan Evans finished with 14 points and four assists.
Sophomore guard Caleb Mills had 10 of his 14 points in the second half while making his Florida State debut following his transfer from Houston.
Mills was selected as the American Athletic Conference Preseason Player of the Year in 2020-21 but played in just four games because of COVID-19.

He shot 6-for-13 while finishing with five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Another transfer, sophomore guard Cam’Ron Fletcher, had nine points and five steals. He spent last season at Kentucky.
Florida forced 26 turnovers and held Penn to 39.7% shooting.
Castleton Back to Lead Florida
Florida showed good inside-outside balance in its opener, as senior Colin Castleton and senior guard Myreon Jones each scored 18 points against Elon.
Castleton scored 17 points in the first half when Florida built a 47-24 lead and finished 7-of-11 from the field. He entered the NBA Draft last season after the Gators went 15-10 and were upset by Oral Roberts in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, but decided to return to Gainesville.

Jones transferred from Penn State after averaging a team-high 15.3 points last season. He made 6-of-13 shots in his Florida debut, including 4-of-8 from three-point range.
Senior guard Tyree Appleby finished with 14 points and senior forward Anthony Duruji contributed 10 points. Florida has seven senior or graduate players on its roster.

Florida is without senior forward Keyontae Johnson, who missed most of last season after he collapsed in the game against Florida State and was hospitalized.
The 2020-21 SEC Preseason Player of the Year has yet to be medically cleared to play and has been serving as a de facto assistant coach to Mike White.
Florida State vs Florida Prediction
Florida State has won seven consecutive games in the series, including 83-71 last season at home in Tallahassee in a game marred by Johnson’s collapse. Polite had 14 points and five rebounds for the Seminoles.
The oddsmakers have made Florida the slight favorite but Florida State is the better team, especially with the addition of Mills and Fletcher as transfers. The Seminoles look enticing on the moneyline to win the game outright.
The Pick: Florida State ML (-102)
