No team was happier to bid adieu to the college basketball season last year then Patrick Ewing’s Georgetown Hoyas (1-0, 0-1 ATS) who didn’t win a single game in the Big East, going 0-19 and finishing the year with a 6-25 record.

On second thought, maybe the Green Bay Phoenix (0-1, 0-1 ATS) might have been just as pleased to put last year in the rearview as they finished the season with a 5-25 record, and were 2nd to last in the Horizon League.

Saturday morning, Green Bay and Georgetown go head-to-head with the Hoyas massive 17.5 point favorites in the college basketball odds following their season opening overtime win against Coppin State. Tip off is scheduled for 11 am ET so get your bets in early for this matchup.

You don’t see teams coming off such horrible seasons being made double digit favorites early the following year too often. At -3000 on the moneyline, the Hoyas have an implied win probability of 96.77% to defeat the Phoenix. That’s about as sure a bet as you can find.

Green Bay Phoenix Betting Outlook

Judging from their lackluster season opener, Green Bay seems to be carrying last year’s terrible play over to this campaign. They lost 80-53 to Indiana State, committing 17 turnovers, while dishing out just six assists as a team.

To try and renew their hopes and breathe life into their squad this season, Green Bay went the junior college route, plucking a number of players from the juco ranks to join their roster. Four of those junior college additions played significant minutes in their first game.

David Zeigler was the most productive player amongst the juco imports in the opener, scoring 19 points and snatching eight rebounds, leading the Phoenix in both categories. Although they made a number of additions, Green Bay also lost their top three scorers from last year, so it is unlikely that much better days are ahead.

Georgetown Hoyas Betting Analysis

Once considered one of the heavyweights of college basketball, Georgetown had their most forgettable season in the school’s history going winless in conference play. Not much is expected this year, as they have the longest odds to win the Big East, but at least they got off on the right foot this week.

Ewing drew eight new players from Division I schools to join the Hoyas from the transfer portal. Duquesne transfer Primo Spears looks to be the best of the bunch early on. He was clutch in their OT win against Coppin State scoring 15 of his 28 points in the final six minutes of regulation and adding three more buckets in the extra session.

All of the starters for Georgetown were transfers and they all scored in double figures in their new uniforms. That balance is encouraging for the squad, although it wasn’t the prettiest way to start the year, the Hoyas will take W’s any way they can get them.

Green Bay vs Georgetown Pick & Prediction

The days of Allen Iverson thrilling the crowds in DC are long gone, but for the Hoyas it’s all about steering forward. According to the KenPom college basketball rankings, Georgetown is rated as the 109th Division I team in the nation, not bad considering last year’s disastrous finish.

2021-22 Season Comparison

Team Rank Record Home Record Road Record
Green Bay Phoenix 344 4-25 3-9 1-13
Georgetown Hoyas 194 6-25 6-11 0-11

Green Bay on the other hand are rated as the 355th team out of 363. Despite their additions, the losses they incurred might make them even worse. The 3-1 turnover to assist ratio they compiled in their season opener is evidence that it’s going to be another tough campaign.

With the odds so ridiculously tilted towards the Hoyas in this matchup, you’re looking at betting against the spread or on the over/under total. So what is the best pick in the Saturday college basketball odds?

Green Bay can’t be much worse then they showed on Monday, but at the same time, they lost by 27 points to an Indiana State team that is rated lower in the KenPom rankings then Georgetown. Add to that, the fact, that the Hoyas are at home and should have some spring in their step after emerging with a win in their first game and the prediction here is to lock in on the 17.5 favorites.

Pick: Georgetown Hoyas -17.5 (-108)
